Greenpanel Industries Turns Profitable in Q1, Stock Falls 5%

Greenpanel Industries posted a net profit of ₹1.23 crore for Q1 FY27, recovering from a ₹34.62 crore loss a year earlier. Despite an 8.5% rise in revenue driven by domestic demand, the company's stock dropped nearly 5% as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East halted all export sales for the quarter.

Greenpanel Industries, a leading player in the wood panel sector, announced its financial performance for the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. The company recorded a net profit of ₹1.23 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, marking a significant turnaround from the net loss of ₹34.62 crore reported in the same period last year. Revenue from operations for the quarter stood at ₹349.9 crore, representing an 8.5% increase compared to the previous year.

The profit recovery was largely supported by operational efficiencies and a 12% growth in domestic volumes for its Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF) business. The company’s operating EBITDA, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, reached ₹33.5 crore, resulting in a margin of 9.6%. This is a notable improvement over the 4.0% margin recorded in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Despite the growth in domestic operations, the company faced a major challenge in its international business. Greenpanel reported zero export sales during the quarter, attributing this entirely to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. These markets have historically been important for the company, and the sudden drop in export volume remains a key concern for investors monitoring the company's total revenue diversification.

On the financial front, the company managed to reduce its net debt to ₹141 crore as of June 30, 2026, down from ₹156 crore at the end of March 2026. Additionally, the board of directors approved the reclassification of certain promoter group members from the promoter category to the public category, a change in governance structure that may influence the company's ownership profile.

Market reaction to the results was negative, with the stock price declining by approximately 4.95% to close at ₹192.90 on August 7, 2026. The stock continues to trade significantly below its 52-week high, reflecting investor caution regarding the sector's performance.

Investors may monitor the company’s ability to navigate the intense competition within the wood panel industry, which frequently pressures pricing and profit margins. Other monitorables include the company's ability to resume export volumes if geopolitical conditions stabilize, and how it manages fluctuating raw material costs alongside its seasonal working capital requirements. The sustainability of domestic demand will be critical for maintaining the current profit trajectory in the coming quarters.
