Godrej Security Solutions Plans ₹100 Crore Tech R&D Push

Godrej Security Solutions has announced a ₹100 crore investment over the next three years to boost research into AI and IoT-based security products. The company aims to double the revenue contribution from these tech-driven smart lockers to 20% as consumer demand for advanced home storage rises alongside increasing gold and silver values.

Godrej Security Solutions, a business division of the unlisted Godrej Enterprises Group, is launching a major research initiative to upgrade its security portfolio. The company has committed to spending ₹100 crore over the next three years to develop artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for its products.

This investment strategy is designed to modernize the company's hardware, with a specific focus on facial recognition lockers and mobile-connected smart safes. The firm aims to use these features to increase the share of technology-integrated products in its total revenue from the current 10% to 20% in the medium term.

The push for high-end security comes as demand for home lockers grows in India. Currently, the national penetration rate for home lockers is estimated at a low 4%, suggesting significant room for market expansion. Rising prices for gold and silver have led more families to look for secure, personal storage alternatives. The company is responding to this by shifting its focus from traditional mechanical and keypad-based safes toward smart, app-connected solutions.

While the company continues to serve a large base of institutional clients like banks, the retail household sector is expected to be a key driver of future growth. To support this, the business is prioritizing premiumization, offering higher-value products to customers who are increasingly comfortable with digital security.

Investors and market observers should note that Godrej Security Solutions is a division of the privately held Godrej Enterprises Group and is not a publicly traded entity on the stock exchanges. It should not be confused with listed companies under the Godrej brand, such as Godrej Industries.

Like many firms in the consumer hardware sector, the business faces operational risks, including potential pressure on profit margins from rising raw material costs and shifts in urban consumer spending. The success of this strategy will depend on how effectively the company can scale these new, premium tech-enabled products and whether it can gain widespread acceptance among retail consumers who may have previously preferred simpler, mechanical security options.
