Godfrey Phillips Shares Rise Despite Q1 Profit Dip

Godfrey Phillips India stock rose 2.46% to Rs 2,185.80 on Monday following its annual report. While the company posted record annual profits for FY26, investors are also weighing a decline in the most recent June quarter results. The company continues to maintain a low debt profile while rewarding shareholders with dividends.

Godfrey Phillips India saw its stock price climb by 2.46% to reach Rs 2,185.80 in Monday morning trading. The movement follows the company's annual financial disclosures for the fiscal year ended March 2026, which highlighted strong growth in both top-line revenue and bottom-line profit compared to the previous year.

Annual Financial Strength

For the fiscal year ended March 2026, the company reported a consolidated revenue of Rs 6,391.11 crore, rising from Rs 5,611.01 crore in the prior year. Net profit followed a similar upward trend, reaching Rs 1,242.90 crore, up from Rs 943.92 crore in fiscal 2025. Over the last five years, the company has seen consistent financial expansion, with revenue growing by over 137% and net profit increasing by approximately 183% since March 2022. This performance is backed by a conservative balance sheet, characterized by a low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.02 and a high interest coverage ratio of 152.42, indicating a strong ability to meet financial obligations.

Mixed Recent Performance

While the full-year results reflect long-term growth, the most recent quarterly data presents a different picture. For the quarter ending June 2026, the company reported consolidated revenue of Rs 1,205.51 crore, which is a decline of 18.90% compared to the same period in the previous year. Similarly, net profit for the June 2026 quarter fell by 41.60% to Rs 170.12 crore. Investors often look at quarterly fluctuations to understand immediate demand trends, and this recent dip may prompt questions about near-term market conditions in the tobacco and consumer products sector.

Shareholder Returns and Ratios

Godfrey Phillips has historically maintained a policy of returning capital to shareholders. The company recently declared a final dividend of Rs 33.00 per share, alongside an interim dividend of Rs 17.00 per share. Additionally, shareholders saw a 2:1 bonus issue in August 2025. From a valuation perspective, the company ended the fiscal year 2026 with a basic earnings per share of Rs 97.84 and a net profit margin of 19.44%. The return on net worth, which measures how efficiently the company uses shareholder capital, stood at 24.56%.

Moving forward, the primary monitorable for investors will be whether the company can recover its momentum in the coming quarters and address the factors that led to the recent year-on-year decline in revenue and profit. Market analysts and shareholders will likely look for management commentary in future earnings calls to clarify whether the June quarter weakness is a temporary issue or if the sector is facing broader pressure.
