FSSAI Files Cases Against Dodla Dairy, Priyagold Maker

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated legal action against Dodla Dairy, Surya Food & Agro, and UEIR Organic Foods over alleged safety violations. The regulator cited findings including prohibited additives in milk and non-compliant ingredients in biscuits. For investors, these proceedings are significant as they involve potential brand and regulatory risks for listed entities like Dodla Dairy.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has launched formal legal proceedings against three food companies, including the listed dairy firm Dodla Dairy, as well as Surya Food & Agro and UEIR Organic Foods, following inspections that identified serious safety breaches. The regulatory action marks a significant step in the authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure quality standards in the Indian food processing industry.

For Dodla Dairy, which is a publicly listed company, these allegations carry potential implications for brand equity. The FSSAI reported that samples of the company’s full cream milk tested at a referral laboratory allegedly contained traces of detergent and caustic soda. Furthermore, the regulator stated that the product failed to meet minimum statutory requirements for milk fat content. Regulatory actions regarding food safety are closely monitored by investors because they can lead to operational disruptions, product recalls, and long-term erosion of consumer trust, which is a core asset for dairy brands.

Surya Food & Agro, the manufacturer of the Priyagold biscuit brand, is also under scrutiny. According to the regulator, inspections at its production facility revealed the use of cattle feed bran as an ingredient in biscuits, which is not approved for human consumption. Inspectors also flagged concerns regarding factory hygiene, raw material storage, and pest management, leading to the previous suspension of the facility's operating license.

Separately, UEIR Organic Foods is facing legal repercussions after pesticide residues were detected in its yellow raisins. This case highlights the regulatory focus on organic products, which are often marketed as healthier alternatives and command higher price points.

These enforcement actions reflect a broader regulatory push to ensure that food business operators adhere to established safety norms. For shareholders, the key monitorable will be the official response from the companies involved and any subsequent directives from the courts or the FSSAI. Investors may track official exchange filings, where the management of listed entities typically discloses material regulatory updates and legal developments that could impact financial performance or market perception.
