Overview

Consumer goods sales volume in India, including soaps and detergents, saw a sequential slowdown in the September quarter to 5.4% growth, down from 6% in the previous quarter. This dip, led by home and personal care categories, is attributed to consumers and retailers anticipating the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate cuts effective September 22. While value growth remained robust at 12.9%, driven by price increases, companies like Hindustan Unilever Limited and Colgate Palmolive (India) were impacted. Rural demand continued to outpace urban, growing at 7.7%.
