DOMS Industries reported a 22% decline in net profit to ₹44.4 crore for the June quarter despite a 19% rise in revenue. While demand for school and office stationery remains strong, higher raw material and employee costs have squeezed profit margins. The company is currently prioritizing market share expansion and is integrating its recent acquisition of the Reynolds brand.
DOMS Industries has reported a consolidated net profit of ₹44.4 crore for the first quarter ending June 2026, marking a 22.4% decline compared to the same period last year. This dip in profitability comes despite a healthy 19.3% growth in revenue from operations, which rose to ₹670.5 crore. The results highlight a difficult balance for the company as it navigates rising input costs while attempting to maintain its growth momentum in the competitive stationery sector.
The primary driver behind the lower profit is a sharp contraction in operating margins. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) fell by 16.3% to ₹82.6 crore. Consequently, the EBITDA margin dropped to 12.3% from 17.6% a year ago. Management attributed this pressure to increased costs for key raw materials like paper, plastic, and graphite, alongside higher spending on employee salaries and depreciation following recent capital investments.
Strategic investments are also impacting short-term earnings. DOMS has been actively scaling its operations, including hiring staff for a new manufacturing facility and funding its greenfield project. Additionally, the company recorded expenses related to employee stock options and channel partner engagement. While these costs affect immediate profit figures, the company maintains that it is intentionally focusing on volume growth and gaining market share over short-term margin protection.
A significant recent move for the company is the acquisition of assets from Reynolds Pens India, which was finalized at a value of approximately ₹35 crore and became effective on July 1, 2026. This acquisition is intended to boost the company’s footprint in the writing instruments segment. Management plans to operate Reynolds as a distinct brand, which could help diversify the product portfolio and strengthen its market presence in the long term.
The company is also expanding its production capacity through a 50-acre greenfield project. The first phase of this facility is scheduled to begin operations by the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. This expansion is designed to improve supply chain control and decrease the company’s reliance on third-party manufacturing. Investors may track whether this increased capacity helps stabilize margins by improving operational efficiency as the company scales. The future performance will depend on the company's ability to manage commodity price volatility and effectively integrate the new Reynolds product line into its existing distribution network.
