Century Plyboards Opens ₹215-Crore Plywood Plant in Punjab

Century Plyboards has officially started operations at its new 60,000 cubic metre plywood facility in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. This ₹215-crore investment aims to strengthen the company’s supply chain in North India, targeting annual revenue contribution of ₹600 crore. Investors may monitor whether this capacity addition effectively supports demand in competitive northern markets amid ongoing raw material cost pressures.

Century Plyboards has commissioned its seventh plywood manufacturing facility in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, as part of a ₹215-crore greenfield investment. This plant, which began operations on October 12, 2026, is designed to serve the North and North-Western Indian markets, including key regions like Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. By localizing production, the company aims to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce delivery lead times to its customers in the northern part of the country.

The facility currently holds an annual capacity of 60,000 cubic metres, with plans to scale production to 1 lakh cubic metres in the coming months. Management expects this site to contribute approximately ₹600 crore in annual revenue once it reaches full capacity. This expansion comes at a time when the company has demonstrated strong topline growth, reporting a 33.5% year-on-year revenue increase in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company currently holds a 9.5–10% share in India’s organized plywood sector, and this new unit is part of a broader strategy to maintain its market leadership.

While the company continues to focus on volume growth, investors should also consider the broader sector dynamics. The building materials industry has faced challenges related to fluctuating raw material prices, which can place pressure on profit margins. Any increase in the cost of wood or chemicals used in plywood manufacturing directly impacts the company’s ability to maintain profitability, especially if these costs cannot be passed on to customers immediately.

Furthermore, the sector has recently faced cautious sentiment from market analysts, with some brokerages adjusting their outlook due to broader economic pressures and the potential for a slowdown in demand in the construction and real estate segments. For Century Plyboards, the ability to utilize this new capacity effectively—meaning demand must keep pace with production—will be a critical factor. Excessive supply without corresponding demand growth could lead to pressure on utilization rates.

The key monitorables for shareholders moving forward will be the production ramp-up speed at the Hoshiarpur site, management commentary on demand trends in North India, and the company's ability to navigate potential raw material cost inflation. Investors may also look for updates on the actual revenue contribution from this new facility in the upcoming quarterly results to gauge if it is meeting internal projections.
