Bosch Plans Asian AC Market Entry With Dual Brands
Overview

Bosch Home Comfort India is exploring the launch of its own air conditioners across Asia, marking a potential entry into the Asian AC market. The plan follows the integration of the former Johnson Controls-Hitachi AC business. Managing Director Sanjay Sudhakaran said the Bosch AC introduction is under active consideration, with no launch date yet set. The company plans to keep selling Hitachi-branded units under a long-term license, using a dual-brand strategy to boost its market share in India, where it holds a high single-digit presence. Rising costs from logistics, currency, raw materials, and stricter energy rules are expected to increase operating expenses by at least 12%.

Bosch's Asian AC Expansion Strategy

Bosch Home Comfort India is actively exploring a launch of its own Bosch-branded air conditioners across Asian markets. This move would mark the German company's first entry into the Asian AC sector. The consideration follows the integration of the former Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning business.

Managing Director Sanjay Sudhakaran confirmed the Bosch AC plans are under active consideration, though no firm launch date has been set. The company will continue offering Hitachi-branded units under a long-term license. This approach aims to use a dual-brand strategy to capture a larger market share, leveraging the established presence of the Hitachi brand while introducing the global Bosch identity.

Currently, Bosch Home Comfort India holds a high single-digit share in India's competitive AC market and aims to become a top three player. This puts it in direct competition with established brands like Voltas, which has a significant market position and a P/E ratio around 55x, and Daikin, another major global player in India. Blue Star, with a P/E ratio near 40x, also represents substantial competition.

The residential segment accounts for roughly 70% of Bosch Home Comfort India's revenue. The company also plans to expand into light commercial AC applications.
