Beyond Appliances Targets ₹500 Crore Revenue with Smart Kitchen Push
Beyond Appliances is setting an ambitious goal of achieving ₹500 crore in annual recurring revenue within three years, largely driven by its focus on smart kitchen appliances. The company is emphasizing innovative products like ductless, plug-and-play chimneys, which solve installation issues for customers. These smart chimneys now represent 60% of the company's sales, with premium gas stoves contributing another 40%. This shift means traditional chimneys now make up a smaller portion of the business, around 20-25%.
Driving Innovation in Kitchen Appliances
Co-founder and CTO Rakesh Patil noted that kitchen appliance innovation has been slow for the past decade. Beyond Appliances aims to change this with new products. Their development pipeline includes features like India's first Android-enabled chimney and cooktops designed to use less LPG. They are also using proprietary BLDC technology in their chimneys for better performance and efficiency. This focus on technology aims to offer users more convenience, safety, and a better overall experience.
A Hybrid Approach to Sales and Production
Beyond Appliances is using a mixed strategy for reaching customers. While about 84% of current revenue comes from online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, the company is also increasing its physical store presence. This combination of online and offline sales is expected to boost future growth. Manufacturing also uses a hybrid model, with in-house design and assembly of key parts, supported by partnerships with eight OEM manufacturers across India to increase production capacity. To reduce risks from global supply chain issues, the company has built a strong, India-based supply chain that meets around 80% of its needs.
The Competitive Kitchen Appliance Market
The broader Indian kitchen appliance market is growing significantly due to rising incomes and more people living in cities. Beyond Appliances faces competition from established brands like Faber India, Elica, and Bosch, which are also investing in smart technologies. Faber, for example, is promoting its smart chimneys with advanced features. In the premium gas stove market, where Beyond Appliances also competes, there's growing demand for models that are both energy-efficient and stylish. Beyond Appliances' focus on easy-to-install, plug-and-play solutions addresses a specific customer need that might be overlooked by larger competitors, giving them a potential advantage. However, to compete effectively with brands that have wide dealer networks, Beyond Appliances must successfully grow its offline presence.
