Bata India reported a 30.4% increase in net profit to ₹18.11 crore for the quarter ended September 2026. While revenue grew by 7.5% to ₹861.78 crore, operating margins tightened to 16.7% from 18.1% amid one-time costs and rising input inflation.
Bata India posted a consolidated net profit of ₹18.11 crore for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, reflecting a 30.4% rise compared to the same period last year. The footwear retailer’s revenue from operations grew by 7.54% to reach ₹861.78 crore, a performance that management attributed to higher average selling prices. This growth occurred despite a notable shift in the festive calendar, which saw a significant portion of expected demand move into the third quarter.
While the company showed growth in the top line, the bottom line numbers were affected by operational costs. The EBITDA margin, which measures operating profitability, contracted to 16.7% from 18.1% in the year-ago period. According to company disclosures, this margin pressure was driven by a combination of inflationary input costs, necessary wage revisions, and one-time financial impacts, including non-cash foreign exchange losses and specific asset write-offs.
Under the leadership of new Managing Director and CEO Sanjay S. Rao, who took charge on October 1, 2026, the company is intensifying its focus on premiumisation. This strategy aims to shift the product mix toward higher-value offerings. Operational efficiency remains a key priority, with the company currently reporting that 92% of its inventory is fresh. Furthermore, net inventory levels have been reduced by 7% compared to the position held in September 2025. This lean approach is supported by the expansion of the 'Zero Base Merchandising' initiative, which is now active across 850 retail stores to help improve revenue per square foot.
Looking ahead, the company continues to manage a vast network of over 2,000 stores and 3,800 key retail outlets. Investors may monitor how the company executes its distribution strategy to manage productivity across these locations. The management has indicated that the shift in festive demand could provide a potential tailwind for growth in the third quarter. Key monitorables for shareholders will include the company's ability to recover profit margins as it manages inflationary pressures and works to integrate its newer product strategies.
