Astral Q1 Profit Jumps 52% to ₹120 Crore; Paints Business Hits Breakeven

Astral Ltd reported a 51.8% jump in Q1 FY27 net profit to ₹120.2 crore, while revenue rose 15.9% to ₹1,578 crore. The company benefited from robust growth in its adhesives and paint segments, which helped offset volume pressure in the plumbing industry. Investors are monitoring the progress of its new CPVC resin plant and the impact of raw material price volatility.

Astral Ltd posted a strong start to the new fiscal year, with its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, beating analyst estimates. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹120.2 crore, marking a 51.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter rose by 15.9% to ₹1,578 crore. Profitability also improved, with EBITDA reaching ₹244 crore, reflecting an expanded margin of 15.5%.

Paints and Adhesives Drive Growth

The company’s diversification strategy appears to be gaining traction. The paints business recorded a significant 48.7% growth in revenue and achieved an EBITDA break-even point during the quarter, indicating that this newer vertical is beginning to scale effectively. Similarly, the adhesives segment continued its strong momentum, posting a 24.9% sales increase. These segments are benefiting from Astral's expanding dealer network and deeper penetration into rural markets, helping the company reduce its historical dependence on the plumbing business.

Plumbing Segment Shows Resilience

The plumbing division, which remains the company’s core business, faced challenges during the quarter. The industry reported an overall volume decline of approximately 10% due to fluctuating polymer prices, which created uncertainty for dealers and distributors. However, Astral managed to keep its plumbing volumes flat, effectively gaining market share compared to the industry average. This performance demonstrates the strength of the company's brand and its ability to maintain sales even when the wider building materials sector faces demand headwinds.

Strategy and Expansion Plans

Astral is continuing its capital spending plan to support long-term growth. The construction of its new CPVC resin plant remains on track, with completion expected by December 2026. This project is a key focus for investors, as it is expected to provide operational benefits starting in FY28. Additionally, the company is integrating its recent acquisition of a 60% stake in Differentiated & Sustainable Solutions (DSS) LLP through its subsidiary, Astral Chemie, which aligns with its goal of strengthening its position in the specialty chemicals and adhesives space. As of June 30, 2026, the company maintained a healthy cash position of ₹466.6 crore, providing financial flexibility for these ongoing projects.

Despite the positive performance, the company faces risks related to commodity price volatility. PVC and CPVC resin prices remain sensitive to global factors, which can impact raw material costs and margins. Furthermore, intense competition in the building materials and adhesives sector requires the company to constantly manage its marketing and distribution costs. The key monitorables for the coming quarters will be the raw material price trend, the demand recovery in the plumbing industry, and the successful commissioning of the new resin plant.
