Amazon India Launches 'Creator Connections' For Influencers

Amazon India has rolled out 'Creator Connections,' a new program allowing its 1.65 lakh-strong creator community to earn through both cost-per-click and sales commissions. The initiative aims to capture growth in non-metro regions, where 70% of creator-led purchases currently originate, as the company ramps up efforts ahead of the festive season.

Amazon India has introduced 'Creator Connections,' a strategic initiative designed to overhaul how content creators monetize their influence on the platform. By allowing creators to earn via a cost-per-click (CPC) model alongside traditional affiliate commissions, the company is moving to diversify income streams for its network of over 1.65 lakh creators. The program is currently being rolled out in phases, beginning with a pilot group of 5,000 select creators.

Targeting the Non-Metro Growth Engine

The initiative is specifically tailored to address the growing importance of non-metro markets in India's digital retail landscape. Internal data indicates that approximately 70% of creator-driven purchases on the platform originate from outside major metros. While much of the industry attention has traditionally focused on high-profile influencers in cities like Mumbai and Delhi, this program aims to tap into the large, fragmented base of mid-tier and regional creators who specialize in lifestyle, electronics, and home goods.

By automating the matching process between these creators and over 50,000 participating advertisers, Amazon is removing the need for manual brand pitches and individual contract negotiations. This approach allows smaller influencers to access monetization opportunities that were previously reserved for larger creators with the resources to manage direct brand deals.

Shifting the Influencer Compensation Model

The move represents a significant change in the economics of influencer marketing. Traditionally, creators relied on either flat-fee sponsorships or purely conversion-based affiliate models. The flat-fee model offered guaranteed pay but often lacked long-term alignment with sales performance, while the pure affiliate model placed the entire burden of conversion risk on the creator.

By introducing a cost-per-click component, Amazon is adjusting how influence is priced. This structure rewards creators for generating consumer interest and traffic, providing a middle ground that makes income slightly less dependent on immediate purchases while still encouraging quality recommendations. However, this also shifts a portion of the risk to the platform and the creator; if content fails to drive engagement, earnings may be more volatile than under traditional fixed-fee arrangements.

Competitive Context in E-Commerce

This launch comes at a critical time in the Indian e-commerce sector, with the festive season approaching—a period when creator-led discovery typically drives high sales volumes. The program also serves as a strategic response to the increasingly competitive landscape, where social commerce platforms and rival retailers are aggressively vying for the attention of the next wave of internet users in smaller towns.

For investors and industry observers, the success of 'Creator Connections' will depend on the program's ability to maintain high creator engagement during peak demand periods. The key monitorables moving forward will be how effectively the platform balances its algorithmic matching with creator preferences, and whether this model succeeds in converting regional traffic into sustainable, long-term revenue for both the creators and the brands involved.
