Allied Blenders Starts Moradabad Plant, Boosting Capacity By 6 Million Cases

Allied Blenders and Distillers has launched production at its new facility in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, adding 6 million cases to its annual capacity. This move is part of a 600 crore state-wide investment plan to bring manufacturing in-house. While the expansion aims to reduce costs and improve margins, investors are closely watching the stock’s high valuation and competitive pressure in the regional spirits market.

Allied Blenders and Distillers has officially commenced commercial production at its new bottling facility in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. This facility adds 6 million cases to the company’s annual production capacity. The launch is a key milestone in the company’s broader 600 crore investment strategy for the state, which aims to shift production from third-party franchise agreements to company-owned manufacturing units.

The strategic shift to in-house manufacturing is designed to give the company better control over its supply chain and reduce the fees paid to outside bottling partners. The Moradabad site involved an acquisition cost of 70 crore and an additional 40 crore spent on modernizing the equipment. By centralizing operations, the management aims to secure a more stable supply of Extra Neutral Alcohol, a primary raw material in spirit production, and protect the company from price swings in the open market.

Uttar Pradesh is a highly competitive and significant market for spirits in India. Players like Radico Khaitan already hold a strong presence in the region. For Allied Blenders, success in this market will depend on how efficiently the company can use this new capacity and whether it can effectively compete with established brands that already have deep roots in the state. Additionally, the spirits business is heavily dependent on state excise policies, which can change and affect demand or pricing.

From a financial perspective, the stock has seen a rise of approximately 35% over the last twelve months. However, the company currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of nearly 99.86. This high valuation suggests that the market has already factored in significant expectations for future growth. Investors are currently weighing this market optimism against the financial reality of the costs involved in these large-scale expansions. With the stock trading near 743.55, not far from its 52-week high of 766.90, the market is looking for concrete proof that these investments will translate into improved profitability.

Moving forward, the primary factor for investors to track will be the company’s ability to ramp up capacity utilization at the new plant. The company’s ability to improve profit margins by reducing reliance on franchise partners will be the key test of this expansion strategy. Investors may also monitor how the company manages the debt or cash flow impact as it continues to deploy the remaining portion of its 600 crore capital investment plan across Uttar Pradesh.
