Vedanta Aluminium Faces Buy Rating With ₹520 Target

ICICI Securities has initiated coverage on Vedanta Aluminium Metal with a target price of ₹520. The firm highlighted expectations for improved production volumes and a strategic shift toward higher-value products. Investors may track the company's ability to manage production costs as it concludes a major cycle of capital spending.

ICICI Securities recently began tracking Vedanta Aluminium Metal, assigning a positive outlook on the company’s future earnings potential. This coverage comes as the company moves past a period of heavy capital spending on new projects. The brokerage firm set a target price of ₹520, citing the company’s ability to grow its core earnings, or EBITDA, which reached ₹102 billion in the recent period.

Financial Context and Growth

The company’s recent performance showed a strong increase in EBITDA, rising 135% compared to the same period last year. This growth was largely supported by higher production volumes and better prices for aluminum in the market. To sustain this momentum, management is focusing on backward integration, which means producing more of its own raw materials to lower overall expenses. By increasing the share of value-added products in its portfolio, the company aims to move away from selling basic commodities, which often command lower profit margins.

Capital Spending and Market Position

With most of its major expansion projects nearing completion, Vedanta Aluminium is entering a phase where the focus shifts toward getting the most out of these new assets. ICICI Securities expects the company to increase its total aluminum output, forecasting a 9% annual growth rate through FY28. Much of this production growth is tied to the expansion happening at the BALCO facility. As these projects begin to operate at full capacity, the company is looking to stabilize its earnings.

Risks and Monitoring

While the market outlook remains generally supportive for aluminum producers, investors should monitor the company's cost of production. The brokerage has projected this cost at approximately USD 1,682 per tonne by FY28, acknowledging that fluctuations in raw material prices or energy costs could impact profitability. Like other metal producers, the company’s performance is closely linked to global commodity cycles, which can be unpredictable. The key monitorable for shareholders will be the company’s ability to control these production costs while maintaining high utilization rates at its newly expanded plants. Future updates from management regarding debt levels and cash flow generation following the completion of large projects will also be important for evaluating the company's long-term financial health.
