MCX Gold Slips, Silver Rises As Crude Oil Prices Cool

Gold prices fell to ₹1,52,575 while silver gained on the Multi Commodity Exchange today, driven by a six-day slide in crude oil prices. As lower energy costs signal easing geopolitical tensions, investors are adjusting their demand for precious metals. Both metals are currently trading well below their annual highs, highlighting the ongoing volatility in global commodity markets.

Gold and silver are showing different price trends on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) today. While gold futures recorded a small decline, silver prices moved higher. This shift follows a six-day drop in global crude oil prices, a trend that is influencing how investors value precious metals.

The recent slide in crude oil prices is largely attributed to diplomatic reports from the United States regarding ongoing discussions with Iran. When energy costs fall, it often changes investor appetite for assets like gold, which are traditionally viewed as safer investments during times of economic uncertainty. This cooling of geopolitical tensions has contributed to the current split performance of the two metals.

In early Wednesday trading, the October gold contract on the MCX opened at ₹1,52,575 per 10 grams, which is a decrease of ₹141 from the previous close of ₹1,52,716. Trading was relatively limited, with prices moving within a narrow range between ₹1,52,549 and ₹1,52,848. Despite this session's movement, gold prices are still significantly lower than the annual high of ₹1,80,779 reached earlier this year.

Silver followed a different path, showing resilience as the December contract opened at ₹2,40,312 per kilogram, an increase of ₹424 over the previous settlement of ₹2,39,888. The metal touched an intraday high of ₹2,40,481, supported by industrial demand. However, similar to gold, silver is currently trading far from its yearly peak of ₹4,20,048.

The trends seen in India mirror international markets. On the Comex, gold was trading at $4,377.80 per ounce, while silver prices also maintained an upward trend, reaching $67.07 per ounce. The relationship between energy prices and precious metal demand remains a critical factor. Investors may continue to track whether crude oil prices stabilize or continue to slide, as this will likely dictate further movement in gold and silver in the upcoming trading sessions.
