MCX Gold Futures Drop 0.68% as Spot Demand Softens

Gold futures for December delivery on the Multi Commodity Exchange fell by 0.68% to ₹1,41,620 per 10 grams on Friday. The decline follows a cooling in spot demand and reflects a similar downward trend in international gold markets.

Gold futures trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) experienced a correction during Friday’s session, with December delivery contracts slipping by 0.68% to close at ₹1,41,620 per 10 grams. The session recorded a total turnover of 3,117 lots, indicating active trading as prices moved downward.

Domestic Futures Correct Amid Muted Demand

The primary driver behind the current price adjustment appears to be a decrease in physical spot demand. When buying interest for physical gold slows, it often limits upward momentum for futures contracts. Investors and traders are currently observing whether the price finds stable support at these levels, or if the lack of physical demand continues to put pressure on the contract price.

Global Market Correlation Influences Price

The domestic weakness in gold is closely aligned with international market movements. Gold prices in New York witnessed a decline of 0.93%, trading at USD 3,983.99 per ounce. Because gold is a globally traded commodity, price shifts in major international markets frequently impact the domestic exchange. The synchronized dip in both the New York and Indian markets suggests that global sentiment is currently influencing the local price trajectory more strongly than domestic factors.

For investors, the key monitorable is the sustainability of the current price levels. If spot demand remains weak, it may challenge the potential for a quick recovery in futures prices. Traders may continue to watch for signals from both international price stabilization and any shift in domestic physical buying patterns, as these will likely determine the next movement in the gold market.
