India has achieved a significant milestone by turning into a net exporter of finished steel in October, according to provisional government data. Shipments of finished steel from India surged by an impressive 44.7% compared to the previous year, reaching 0.6 million metric tons. Concurrently, India's imports of finished steel saw a substantial decrease of 55.6%, amounting to 0.5 million metric tons in the same month. This shift indicates a strong performance in India's domestic steel sector. Production of finished steel in India grew by 10% year-on-year to 13.4 million metric tons in October, while consumption rose by 4.7% to 13.6 million metric tons. Crude steel production also climbed by 9.4% to 14.02 million metric tons.
Impact This development is highly positive for Indian steel manufacturers, potentially boosting their revenues and profitability. It also reflects a strengthening domestic industrial base and a reduced reliance on foreign steel. The stock prices of major Indian steel companies could see a positive uptick. Rating: 8/10
