Gold Prices Rise to ₹1,43,397 As US Dollar Weakens

Gold and silver prices moved higher on August 4, supported by a softer US dollar and lower oil prices. The market is now focused on upcoming US employment data to understand the future path of Federal Reserve interest rates. Investors are watching how these economic signals will affect precious metal demand in the coming weeks.

Gold and silver prices recorded gains in early trading on August 4, reflecting shifting global economic sentiments. Gold for October delivery reached ₹1,43,397 per 10 grams, marking a 0.34 percent increase, while silver futures for September delivery climbed 1.12 percent to trade at ₹2,19,180 per kilogram. These movements follow a period where geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran have remained relatively stable, leading to reduced volatility in the commodity markets.

Factors Influencing Bullion Prices

The current price trend is largely driven by external macroeconomic factors rather than sudden geopolitical shocks. A decline in crude oil prices combined with a weaker US dollar has historically provided a supporting environment for gold, as the metal is often viewed as a hedge when the dollar loses strength. International spot gold prices tracked this sentiment, rising 0.47 percent to $4,109.90 per ounce, while silver saw a more pronounced increase of 1.84 percent on the Comex exchange.

Focus on US Economic Indicators

Investors are now turning their attention toward the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy decisions. The central bank's interest rate strategy remains a critical driver for bullion, as higher interest rates typically make non-yielding assets like gold less attractive to investors. The market is specifically awaiting the release of key US labor data, including the ADP Employment Change report, Non-Farm Payrolls, and the national Unemployment Rate scheduled for later this week.

These employment figures are expected to serve as a bellwether for the health of the US economy. Should the data indicate a cooling labor market, it might reinforce expectations of a more cautious interest rate approach by the Federal Reserve, which could further influence gold prices. Conversely, stronger-than-expected job growth may shift market expectations regarding how long current interest rate levels might be maintained.

For investors, the primary monitorable in the near term remains the consistency of these economic reports and any subsequent commentary from Federal Reserve officials. As the market remains within a established trading range, participants are likely to react to any significant divergence in the upcoming employment data compared to historical averages or analyst expectations.
