Gold Prices Hold Steady at Rs 1.45 Lakh Amid Global Rate Cues

Domestic spot gold remains stable at Rs 1,45,353 per 10 grams as global markets await clarity on central bank interest rates. While easing crude oil prices have reduced some inflationary pressure, lower bond yields continue to support bullion, keeping prices in a narrow range for now.

Gold prices in India stayed range-bound on October 21, with domestic spot gold closing at Rs 1,45,353 per 10 grams. The precious metal has shown little movement as traders globally wait for more information on how central banks will adjust interest rates in the coming months. In international markets, gold is trading near $4,147 per ounce, reflecting a cautious mood among investors who are hesitant to place big bets without clear economic direction.

A key factor influencing the gold market is the movement of crude oil prices. Recently, a slight drop in energy costs has helped ease concerns about rising inflation. Since gold is often bought as a hedge against inflation, lower inflation worries can sometimes reduce the appeal of the metal. However, at the same time, falling returns on government bonds have acted as a cushion, preventing gold prices from dropping further.

For Indian investors, the current price stability comes as the market approaches key festive seasons like Diwali and Dhanteras, periods traditionally known for higher physical gold demand. While high prices have made some buyers cautious, the current range-bound performance indicates that the market is balancing global economic signals against local buying habits. Silver prices also showed little change, closing at Rs 2,08,380 per kilogram, mirroring the steady sentiment seen in the gold market.

Going forward, the direction of gold prices will likely depend on updates from the US Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of India regarding interest rates. Additionally, any major shifts in crude oil prices or significant changes in the value of the rupee could influence the domestic price of gold. Investors may want to track these macroeconomic indicators rather than focusing only on daily price fluctuations, as central bank policies remain the primary driver for non-yielding assets like precious metals.
