Gold ETFs See 8th Straight Week Of Inflows Amid High Demand

Global gold exchange-traded funds recorded an eight-week streak of net inflows, adding $1.55 billion last week. While gold prices trade near $4,300 per ounce, investors continue to increase holdings despite market volatility and a stronger US dollar.

Investors continue to channel capital into physically-backed gold exchange-traded funds, marking an eight-week streak of consecutive net inflows. The latest data shows that $1.55 billion flowed into these funds last week, highlighting a sustained appetite for the yellow metal even as prices face periodic volatility. Gold is currently trading near $4,290 to $4,300 per ounce, levels observed earlier this year.

This trend follows a record-breaking August for gold, which saw global inflows of $18 billion—the second-highest monthly total on record. By the end of August, total assets under management reached $615 billion, with holdings hitting a record 4,189 tonnes. This broader context suggests that while individual weekly figures fluctuate, the structural demand for gold remains significant.

Geographic demand has been varied. Recent activity saw strong participation from the United Kingdom, which recorded inflows of $771 million, followed by China at $444 million and Germany at $162.5 million. In contrast, the United States saw capital outflows of $122.4 million last week, representing a shift in regional sentiment compared to earlier in the quarter.

Gold remains caught in a tug-of-war between safe-haven demand and macroeconomic pressures. Investors are increasingly looking to gold as a hedge against global sovereign debt concerns, geopolitical instability, and uncertainties regarding future interest rate policies from the US Federal Reserve. However, this demand is being tested by a strengthening US dollar, which makes gold more expensive for international buyers, and rising crude oil prices, which can divert investor capital toward energy commodities.

Looking ahead, market participants will track how these macroeconomic forces impact future price action. With the festive season approaching in several key markets, physical buying for jewelry and traditional investment products may provide support for the metal. The primary factors for investors to watch remain shifts in US monetary policy, the stability of the US dollar, and ongoing geopolitical tensions, which often dictate the speed and direction of gold investment flows.
