Global Gold Prices Rise After US Fed Rate Decision

Global gold prices increased by 0.77% to $4,056 per ounce following the US Federal Reserve's decision to maintain interest rates. While international markets responded positively, Indian MCX gold futures saw a slight decline. Investors are now monitoring how energy prices and the strength of the dollar influence future bullion trends.

Gold prices in global markets saw an increase on Tuesday after the US Federal Reserve announced its decision to keep interest rates steady. The metal rose by 0.77% to reach $4,056 per ounce, while US gold futures saw a 0.60% rise to $4,075.80. Investors often look to gold when interest rates are stable or falling because the metal does not pay interest, unlike bonds. When rates are high, bonds become more attractive, which can push gold prices lower. By holding rates steady, the US central bank has eased some market pressure, allowing gold to gain temporary support.

In the domestic Indian market, the performance was mixed. Futures for gold set for delivery on December 4 settled at Rs 143,600 per 10 grams, recording a slight decline of 0.07% on the Multi Commodity Exchange. Meanwhile, spot gold prices were reported at Rs 142,253 in the previous session. For retail consumers, 24-karat gold in Mumbai was trading at Rs 142,660 per 10 grams, while 22-karat gold was priced at Rs 130,670 per 10 grams. Silver prices also saw activity, recorded at Rs 194,449 per kilogram.

Investors tracking gold prices should also consider external factors like the dollar index and crude oil, which can create significant pressure. The dollar index rose 0.08% to 102.40, which can make gold more expensive for buyers holding other currencies. Additionally, Brent crude futures advanced by 1.06% to $115.08 per barrel. Rising oil prices often increase global inflation fears, which can complicate the gold price outlook. When oil prices climb, it can act as a drag on precious metals, potentially balancing out the support gained from the stable interest rate environment.

Moving forward, the primary factor for market participants will be incoming economic data from the US, specifically regarding inflation and employment, which helps the Federal Reserve decide on future interest rate adjustments. Investors may track how energy prices, the dollar index, and future central bank commentary continue to interact with bullion demand in the coming weeks.
