Delhi Gold Prices Jump ₹500 Ahead of Diwali Festive Demand

Gold prices in Delhi recovered to ₹1,42,500 per 10 grams on Monday as jewellers and retailers increased inventory for Diwali. This short-term relief follows a sharp decline in October, though global market uncertainty and US interest rate projections continue to keep price movements volatile.

Gold prices in the national capital saw a recovery on Monday, climbing ₹500 to trade at ₹1,42,500 per 10 grams. This uptick offers a brief period of stability for the bullion market, which faced significant downward pressure throughout October. The increase is largely driven by seasonal festive demand, as jewellers and retail buyers prepare for Dhanteras and Diwali, traditionally periods of high gold consumption in India.

While domestic demand is providing a temporary floor for prices, the recovery follows a notable correction last month. Gold had previously shed ₹7,300 from its peak of ₹1,49,300 recorded at the end of September. The current price movement reflects the efforts of local traders to restock ahead of the upcoming festival season, though the market remains sensitive to broader economic trends.

Global Market Impact

International markets also showed signs of stabilization, with spot gold prices rising to near $3,900 per ounce. This international movement acts as a key reference point for domestic pricing, which is also influenced by the strength of the rupee against the US dollar. When the rupee weakens, it makes importing gold more expensive for Indian dealers, often pushing local prices higher.

Investors are keeping a close watch on global factors that could influence future price direction. Concerns regarding US interest rate policies and the outcome of upcoming political developments in the United States are creating an atmosphere of caution. Additionally, a recent easing in crude oil prices, following diplomatic reports in West Asia, has provided some relief to global commodity markets, though it has not fully eliminated the risk of sudden price swings.

Investor Outlook

For those monitoring the bullion market, the current phase is characterized by high volatility. While festive buying is expected to support prices in the short term, the market remains vulnerable to global cues. If international prices struggle to maintain key technical levels, further price adjustments could occur. Investors generally view this environment as one where caution is necessary, as sudden shifts in global economic policy or geopolitical tensions can quickly change the direction of both gold and silver prices. The main area of focus in the coming weeks will be the sustainability of current demand levels and how global markets react to upcoming macroeconomic data.
