Motilal Oswal Keeps 'Sell' on Fine Organic, Sets Rs 4,510 Target

Motilal Oswal has maintained a 'Sell' rating on Fine Organic Industries with a target price of Rs 4,510. While the company reported strong revenue and profit growth in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, the brokerage flagged concerns over expensive stock valuations and the sustainability of recent profit margins.

Motilal Oswal has reiterated its 'Sell' rating on Fine Organic Industries, setting a target price of Rs 4,510 per share. This stance comes even after the specialty chemical company reported a robust performance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.

The company delivered strong financial results for the quarter, with revenue growing 18% compared to the same period last year to reach Rs 694 crore. Operating profit, or EBITDA, showed even higher momentum, jumping 42% year-over-year to Rs 176 crore. This performance was supported by a notable improvement in profit margins during the period.

Valuation and Sustainability Concerns

Despite these positive results, the brokerage remains cautious about the company's future stock performance. Motilal Oswal suggests that the current high valuation of the stock does not fully reflect potential future challenges. The brokerage noted that the recent improvement in margins may be partially driven by temporary factors, such as inventory or currency impacts, which could normalize in coming quarters. Because of this, the brokerage believes the current share price is trading at a premium that may be difficult to sustain based on long-term earnings potential.

While the brokerage did raise its earnings estimates for the company for fiscal years 2027 and 2028 by 11% to account for the strong first-quarter beat, it maintained a cautious view on the broader business outlook. This highlights a disconnect between the company's recent operational success and its valuation in the stock market.

Strategic Expansion and Risks

In recent corporate developments, the company has focused on geographic expansion, including the acquisition of an 80% stake in the Malaysia-based firm Oleofine Organics for Rs 82.86 crore. While this indicates a push for growth, investors are paying close attention to how such acquisitions contribute to the bottom line over time.

Looking ahead, the brokerage highlighted several external risks that could impact the company. These include evolving demand conditions, macroeconomic uncertainty, complex supply chain dynamics, and fluctuating raw material costs. Capacity utilization across its manufacturing sites is another area that market participants may watch closely.

The key monitorable for investors will be whether the company can maintain its current profit margins amidst potential volatility in demand and raw material prices. The actual impact of the new overseas acquisition and how the management handles macro-level supply chain pressures will also play a role in the stock's future performance.
