Laxmi Organic Industries reported a 40% revenue jump in Q1 FY27, driven by strong Ethyl Acetate prices. However, analysts warn that these product spreads are now softening, which may pressure future profit margins and valuation.
Laxmi Organic Industries announced a strong start to the new fiscal year, reporting revenue of INR 9.7 billion for the first quarter of FY27. This represents a 40% increase compared to the same period last year. Much of this growth was driven by the company's Essentials segment, which surged by 50% and now accounts for 75% of the total revenue. The performance was significantly helped by Ethyl Acetate spreads, which reached a 12-year high of USD 215 per tonne during the quarter.
Impact of Normalizing Product Spreads
While the headline numbers were strong, analysts are increasingly focused on the sustainability of these margins. Since May 2026, the high spreads for Ethyl Acetate have started to moderate. Financial analysts note that as geopolitical tensions in West Asia ease, these price benefits may continue to normalize. This shift is critical for investors, as the company’s recent profitability was heavily tied to these elevated product prices rather than just volume growth.
Adding to the margin concerns, the Specialty Chemicals segment saw slower growth of 17% year-over-year. More importantly, this segment's operating profit margin contracted by 310 basis points. Management has indicated that while lower raw material costs helped initially, they expect these input costs to begin rising, which could create further pressure on profit margins in the coming quarters.
Progress on Expansion and Diversification
Laxmi Organic is actively working to diversify its revenue stream through several large capital spending projects. The company’s Fluorochemicals business is expected to reach full capacity during the current fiscal year. Additionally, the new Ethyl Acetate production facility at Lote is now contributing to overall volumes. Looking further ahead, the Dahej Phase II project remains on schedule for commercial operations, with initial production expected to begin in the fourth quarter of FY27 and a gradual ramp-up through FY28.
Valuation and Market Context
At its current valuation, the stock is trading at approximately 28 times its estimated earnings for FY28. Some brokerage firms have expressed caution, suggesting that the current market price may already account for the company's growth potential. Investors should closely monitor how the company balances its ongoing capital spending with the potential for softer product spreads in the near term. The ability of the new projects to generate meaningful returns while raw material costs fluctuate will be a key factor for the company's financial health in the next few quarters.
