ICICI Securities has set a target price of Rs 490 for Vedanta Ltd, citing strong EBITDA performance and a clear expansion roadmap through 2027. While the brokerage maintains a positive outlook, the company’s path forward depends on managing operational costs and navigating global commodity price volatility. Investors should track production volume growth and margin trends as the firm scales its aluminium capacity.
ICICI Securities has updated its outlook on Vedanta Ltd, setting a price target of Rs 490 per share. This adjustment follows the company’s latest financial report, which showed an EBITDA of Rs 102 billion. While this represents an 83% increase year-on-year, the figure saw a marginal 3% dip on a quarter-on-quarter basis. The brokerage maintains a positive stance, supported by the company’s strategy to scale its operations through the 2027 fiscal year.
The company’s operational focus is heavily concentrated on its BALCO facilities. Management aims to increase production volumes at a 9% compound annual growth rate through 2028, with a production target of 2.9 million tonnes. A core part of this strategy is backward integration, where the company works to secure its own supply chain for essential inputs like power and raw materials. By doing so, the company aims to reduce its reliance on external markets and manage its hot metal costs, which are currently guided to remain between USD 1,650 and USD 1,700 per tonne.
For investors, the performance of a large metal producer like Vedanta is often linked to global commodity trends. Aluminium prices are highly sensitive to supply and demand changes in major markets like China and fluctuations on the London Metal Exchange. Although the management has set an ambitious annualized EBITDA run rate target of USD 5 billion by fiscal year 2027, achieving this will require sustained operational efficiency and strict cost control. Because aluminium production is an energy-intensive process, rising power costs or raw material prices could impact profit margins.
The recent brokerage valuation model incorporates a projected cost of production near USD 1,675 per tonne for 2028. Going forward, investors may look for updates on the actual cost of production in quarterly results, as this metric is a key driver of profitability. Additionally, the company's ability to balance heavy capital spending on expansion projects with its margin requirements will be a key monitorable. Success will depend on the company’s ability to execute these capacity expansions on time while successfully managing its cost structure amid volatile global metal markets.
