Shyam Metalics Q2 Profit Rises 90%, Announces Expansion Plans

Shyam Metalics reported a strong 90% jump in Q2 FY2027 net profit to ₹511 crore, driven by a 33% revenue increase. The company has announced new investments in coal mining and solar energy. While market sentiment remains positive with analysts eyeing potential upside, investors should note the cyclical risks of the steel sector and rising debt levels from expansion.

Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited reported a strong financial performance for the quarter ending September 30, 2026. According to the company's exchange filing released on October 31, 2026, the consolidated net profit surged to approximately ₹511 crore, marking a year-on-year increase of nearly 90%. Revenue from operations also saw a significant boost, climbing 33.4% to ₹5,960 crore compared to the same period last year. This growth was largely supported by a 26% increase in total sales volumes across its metal and energy businesses.

Impact of Accounting Changes

Investors looking at the bottom-line growth should consider an accounting change the company implemented during the quarter. Shyam Metalics shifted its depreciation method from the written-down value (WDV) method to the straight-line method (SLM). This change in how the company records the wear and tear of its assets contributed to the higher reported net profit. While this accounting shift does not change the cash flow or actual operational performance, it does affect the final profit numbers when compared to previous periods.

Strategic Expansion Plans

The company is also focusing on future growth through new investments. The board has approved a capital expenditure budget of ₹360 crore to develop the Phutamura coal block. Additionally, Shyam Metalics is expanding into renewable energy by acquiring a 51% stake in Alom Solar Private Limited. These moves indicate a strategy to secure raw material supplies and diversify into cleaner energy sources, though these large projects will require significant funding.

Market Outlook and Risks

Following the results, market analysts have maintained a positive outlook on the stock. Recent technical analysis points to a support zone between ₹1,070 and ₹1,110, with some analysts noting a potential upward target of ₹1,300. However, this view depends on the stock maintaining its current support levels.

Investors should be aware of several material risks. The steel and metal industry is highly cyclical, meaning profitability can fluctuate significantly based on global demand and raw material prices. Furthermore, the company’s push for expansion, while growth-oriented, may lead to higher debt levels. There is also an ongoing legal matter regarding the company involving the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) proceedings, which remains under appeal. Monitoring how the company manages these legal issues and balances its debt against new expansion projects will be key for shareholders in the coming quarters.
