Motilal Oswal has maintained its 'Buy' rating on Shaily Engineering Plastics, setting a price target of Rs 4,074. The company reported a 24% revenue increase in Q2 FY2027, driven by a 78% surge in its healthcare business. While high-margin medical devices are boosting profitability, investors are watching the ongoing weakness in the consumer goods segment and the stock's current valuation.
Motilal Oswal has reaffirmed its positive outlook on Shaily Engineering Plastics, keeping a 'Buy' rating with a target price of Rs 4,074. This follows the company’s Q2 FY2027 performance, which showcased a strong pivot toward high-value medical device manufacturing.
Healthcare Business Drives Growth
Shaily Engineering reported revenue of Rs 319.5 crore for the second quarter, marking a 24% increase compared to the previous year. The primary engine behind this growth is the healthcare segment, which saw a 78% year-over-year revenue surge. This division now contributes 55% of the company's total revenue, largely fueled by rising production volumes of GLP-1 pen injectors. As patents for these devices expire in markets like India and Canada, the company has managed to capture a larger share of the growing demand.
Challenges in Consumer Segment
Despite the success in healthcare, the company’s consumer goods division continues to face difficulties. Revenue in this segment dropped 14% year-over-year. This decline is largely attributed to weak buying sentiment in the United States and European markets, which are key regions for these products. Investors should note that while healthcare is currently the main growth driver, the company’s overall performance remains sensitive to the recovery or continued sluggishness of this consumer goods business.
Profitability and Valuation
Operational efficiency was a key takeaway from the latest quarterly results, with EBITDA margins reaching 31.9%. This improvement is credited to a change in the revenue mix, where higher-margin healthcare products are now a larger part of the business compared to lower-margin consumer items.
However, the current valuation reflects high expectations. Analysts have valued the stock at approximately 50 times the projected earnings for fiscal 2028. This premium valuation suggests that the market expects consistent and strong growth. The main risk for shareholders is that if the healthcare segment’s expansion slows down or if the consumer goods division does not stabilize, it could lead to pressure on the company's stock valuation multiple.
Going forward, the key monitorables for investors include the stability of the healthcare segment’s growth, the utilization of new manufacturing capacity, and any signs of recovery in the US and European consumer markets. Shareholders will also track the execution of new platform contracts, which are essential for maintaining these profit margins.
