Shaily Engineering Gets Buy Rating From Motilal Oswal With Rs 4,074 Target

Motilal Oswal has initiated coverage on Shaily Engineering Plastics with a 'Buy' rating and a price target of Rs 4,074. The outlook relies on strong healthcare revenue growth, particularly from GLP-1 pens, which has offset persistent weakness in the consumer segment. Investors should note the company's high valuation multiples and challenges in international demand.

Motilal Oswal has initiated coverage on Shaily Engineering Plastics with a 'Buy' rating, setting a target price of Rs 4,074. The company’s stock traded at Rs 3,458 on August 11, 2026, as the market weighs the firm's transition toward higher-value segments against ongoing challenges in its traditional business.

The brokerage’s positive stance is primarily driven by the strong performance of the healthcare segment. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, this division saw revenue jump 85% to Rs 142.4 crore. This surge is largely attributed to the increasing demand for medical devices like GLP-1 pens, following patent expiries in key markets such as India and Canada. By moving toward these specialized products, the company has successfully improved its business mix.

However, the company faces a mixed performance across its other divisions. The consumer segment, a traditional part of the business, experienced a 24% year-over-year revenue decline. This weakness is linked to subdued consumer sentiment in export markets like the United States and Europe, which continues to act as a drag on overall growth. Additionally, the company is dealing with operational losses in its UK subsidiary, which impacts consolidated financial figures.

On the financial front, Shaily Engineering reported a 14% rise in consolidated revenue for Q1 FY27, reaching Rs 280.7 crore, with a Profit After Tax of Rs 48 crore. The increasing contribution of the healthcare business has helped the company expand its EBITDA margin by 190 basis points to 29.6%. This margin improvement is a central element of the brokerage's constructive view.

Investors should be aware of the valuation risk. The company currently trades at a high Price-to-Earnings (P/E) multiple of approximately 89x. At these levels, the market has priced in high growth expectations, leaving little room for error in earnings execution. The key risks for shareholders include the potential for continued consumer demand weakness and the impact of subsidiary losses on profitability. Looking ahead, the primary monitorables for investors will be the sustainability of the healthcare margin expansion and any signs of recovery in the consumer and international business segments.
