Samvardhana Motherson Target Raised to ₹190 by Emkay

Brokerage firm Emkay Global has increased the target price for Samvardhana Motherson International to ₹190, citing growth in new sectors. The company is expanding into consumer electronics and aerospace to reduce its dependence on the automotive industry. Investors may monitor how these segments perform alongside the company's existing operations in India and global markets.

Emkay Global Financial has increased its target price for Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SAMIL) to ₹190, up from ₹180. The brokerage maintains a positive outlook on the company, projecting strong growth in revenue, earnings, and operating profits through FY29. This adjustment follows a period of expansion where the company has moved to diversify its income beyond the traditional automotive parts business.

At the core of this strategy is the company's '3CX10' framework. This plan is designed to lower risk by ensuring that no single country, customer, or component accounts for more than 10% of the company's total revenue. By spreading its business across different regions and product types, the management aims to build a more resilient business model that can withstand localized downturns.

The company’s recent performance reflects these efforts. In the first quarter of FY27, Samvardhana Motherson reported revenue of ₹35,244 crore, marking a 17% increase compared to the previous year. Operating profit (EBITDA) also grew by 26% to ₹3,104 crore. With a leverage ratio of 0.8x as of August 2026, the company maintains a manageable debt position, which provides financial flexibility for its ongoing expansion projects.

Growth is increasingly coming from non-automotive sectors like consumer electronics and aerospace. These areas allow the company to use its existing engineering and logistics capabilities to tap into new markets. Additionally, the company’s India operations are gaining weight, currently contributing about 22% of total revenue and representing 26% of the total order book. This shift towards India and away from a singular focus on global auto markets is a key part of the current growth strategy.

Despite the positive outlook, the company faces several external pressures. Persistent inflation in raw material costs, particularly for copper and crude oil, remains a concern for profit margins. The global automotive industry, especially in China, is seeing a slowdown, which could impact production volume. Furthermore, ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to create uncertainty for international supply chains and logistics costs.

As of September 10, 2026, the stock closed at ₹163.20. For shareholders, the key monitorable will be the company's ability to maintain its margin levels while scaling new businesses. The success of its acquisitions, such as the wiring harness units of Nexans Autoelectric and Yutaka Giken completed in July 2026, will be important for achieving the earnings growth targets set by analysts.
