SBI Shares Trade Near ₹1,088; Brokerage Retains ₹1,200 Target

State Bank of India (SBI) shares are trading around ₹1,088 as investors book profits following a recent rally. The movement comes after the bank reported a 10.2% rise in Q1 net profit to ₹21,121 crore. While brokerages like Prabhudas Lilladher maintain a price target of ₹1,200 citing strong asset quality, investors are now monitoring deposit growth and margin sustainability.

State Bank of India shares are seeing some cooling off in trading on August 10, 2026, with the price hovering around ₹1,088. This comes after the stock experienced a three-day rally following the announcement of the bank’s financial performance for the first quarter of the 2027 financial year.

The bank delivered strong numbers for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, reporting a standalone net profit of ₹21,121 crore, a 10.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Net Interest Income, which is the core earnings from lending activities, rose by 15% to reach ₹46,992 crore. A major highlight of the report was the bank's asset quality, with the Gross Non-Performing Asset ratio dropping to 1.47%, the lowest level seen in over two decades.

In light of these results, brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has maintained its positive outlook on the stock with a target price of ₹1,200. The firm’s view is built on the bank’s solid financial positioning and its ability to manage loans effectively. This target suggests that the brokerage expects the bank's earnings potential to continue supporting its valuation.

While the headline numbers are positive, there are several areas that market analysts and investors are monitoring. One of the main challenges is the gap between loan growth and deposit growth. At present, deposit growth is lagging behind the expansion of the bank's loan book. This is a common point of discussion, as banks need a steady supply of low-cost deposits to fund loan growth without squeezing profit margins.

Additionally, the banking sector is preparing for the implementation of new guidelines regarding Expected Credit Loss provisioning. These accounting changes are aimed at setting aside funds more proactively for potential future losses. Investors are also keeping an eye on how competitive pressure in the deposit market might affect the bank’s profit margins in the coming quarters.

For shareholders, the immediate focus will be on the bank's ability to maintain its margin performance and how it manages the balance between aggressive loan growth and gathering enough deposits to support that activity. The management's commentary in upcoming investor calls regarding these operational balances will likely be the next key monitorable for the stock.
