Prabhudas Lilladher Sets ₹2,025 Target on Max Financial

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has maintained a positive outlook on Max Financial Services, with a target price of ₹2,025. The firm expects growth in the insurer's protection and retirement segments, driven by an improved product mix and efficient operations. Investors may track the company's ability to maintain profit margins amid evolving market conditions.

Prabhudas Lilladher has reaffirmed its positive stance on Max Financial Services, assigning a target price of ₹2,025 to the stock. The brokerage’s outlook is supported by expectations of continued growth in the insurer's protection and retirement product segments. Max Financial Services, as the holding company for Max Life Insurance, remains a significant player in the life insurance sector, and this update reflects the brokerage's latest financial assessment of its business trajectory.

The brokerage has projected an Annual Premium Equivalent (APE) growth of 15% for the fiscal year 2027 and 16% for 2028. APE is a standard industry metric used to calculate the annualised value of new life insurance premiums collected. The report noted that while there was a slowdown in the growth of non-participating products during the second quarter, this was primarily attributed to a high base effect from the previous year. A high base effect means that because the company performed exceptionally well in the same period last year, the year-over-year growth percentage appears lower despite stable business activity.

Profitability is a primary focus for shareholders. The company reported that its Value of New Business (VNB) margin reached 27% in the second quarter. VNB margins indicate the profitability of new policies sold. The brokerage expects these margins to settle around 25.5% in the coming fiscal years. This anticipated efficiency is expected to come from a shift in the product mix—focusing on more profitable offerings—and the benefits of operating leverage, where fixed business costs are spread over a higher volume of sales.

For investors, understanding Max Financial Services involves looking at its distribution model. The company relies heavily on bancassurance, which involves selling insurance products through bank branches. These distribution partnerships are essential for reaching customers at scale. Any changes in these bank partnerships or regulatory shifts in the insurance sector—such as new guidelines from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regarding product design, pricing, or commissions—can impact business performance. The insurance industry is highly sensitive to regulatory changes, and consistent policy adjustments can influence how companies structure their products.

The brokerage’s valuation of the stock is based on an Appraisal Value framework, which assigns a multiple of 1.6 times the company's embedded value. Looking ahead, the key monitorables for investors will include the company's success in expanding its online sales channels and the performance of new partnership agreements. These areas are expected to be critical drivers for diversifying revenue streams beyond traditional bank-based sales. The final financial outcome will depend on the company's ability to balance its product mix, manage operational costs, and navigate competitive pressure within the life insurance space.
