Prabhudas Lilladher Sets ₹1,600 Target for Pidilite Industries

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has issued an 'Accumulate' rating on Pidilite Industries with a target price of ₹1,600. The report notes margin pressure but highlights resilient volume growth in the core business. Investors are closely monitoring how the company manages raw material costs, particularly the price of Vinyl Acetate Monomer.

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has assigned an 'Accumulate' rating to Pidilite Industries, setting a target price of ₹1,600 per share. This evaluation comes as the company navigates a period of profit margin pressure, which recently saw a contraction of 352 basis points year-on-year. Despite these earnings challenges, the report emphasizes that the underlying demand remains steady, with the company's Consumer and Bazaar segment reporting 11.1% volume growth.

Pidilite Industries, a major player in adhesives and sealants, faces a difficult environment due to fluctuations in input costs. The company relies heavily on Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM), a key raw material that has seen its price climb by approximately 34% from recent lows. These cost increases are largely tied to geopolitical instability, which often affects global supply chains and commodity pricing. While the firm expects a sequential improvement in gross margins by about 250 basis points in the third quarter—supported by the consumption of previously acquired lower-cost inventory—analysts remain watchful of future profitability if crude oil trends continue to pressure costs.

To counter these expense-related hurdles, the company is placing a strong emphasis on its innovation pipeline. Management is focusing on 'pioneer' and 'growth' categories, which currently make up nearly half of the firm's total sales. Projections indicate these new categories could grow at two to four times the rate of the core business, serving as a buffer to help offset the volatility seen in raw material expenses. This strategy is intended to protect the bottom line even when input costs rise.

Investors evaluating this target should consider the company's valuation. The ₹1,600 target is based on a valuation of 45 times the company's expected earnings for September 2028. Pidilite has historically traded at a premium compared to its peers in the specialty chemicals and building materials sector. Whether the company can justify this valuation will depend on its ability to sustain an earnings per share compound annual growth rate of 16.5% through fiscal year 2029.

The most important factors for shareholders to track include the trend in VAM prices, as persistent increases could continue to squeeze margins. Additionally, the success of new product launches will be a deciding factor in whether the company can defend its market share against increasing competition in the sector. Future updates from the management regarding pricing power and demand trends in the Consumer and Bazaar business will provide better clarity on the company’s ability to navigate current cost pressures.
