Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has updated its price target for Jindal Stainless to ₹829, citing a downward revision in earnings estimates. While operational production has stabilized following recent supply shortages, the company faces ongoing pressure from import competition and export trade barriers. Investors are monitoring how these market factors influence the company's profitability in the coming quarters.
Prabhudas Lilladher has adjusted its outlook on Jindal Stainless, setting a revised price target of ₹829. This update follows a slight reduction in the brokerage firm's earnings estimates for the 2028 and 2029 fiscal years, which were trimmed by 6% and 2%, respectively. Despite the change in target, the brokerage maintains a generally positive view on the company's growth trajectory, highlighting stabilized manufacturing output and consistent demand as core pillars of the business.
The company has moved past the operational difficulties that affected the first half of fiscal year 2027, specifically regarding a propane supply shortage that had temporarily hampered manufacturing. With operations now normalized, the company is actively supplying key sectors including automotive manufacturing, large-scale metro infrastructure projects, and the ornamental piping market.
A critical factor for investors is the company's management of shifting market conditions. While steady demand in international markets has provided a vital buffer, the company faces two distinct external challenges. First, domestic sales are under pressure due to intense competition from lower-priced Chinese stainless steel imports. Second, the company must navigate complex trade barriers, specifically country-specific quotas that have restricted the volume of steel exports into the European Union.
On the financial front, Jindal Stainless reported an EBITDA per tonne of ₹21,568. Management has worked to balance these gains by managing rising expenditure on raw materials and power. The brokerage firm now expects a 12% compound annual growth rate for EBITDA through fiscal year 2029. Currently, the stock is trading at roughly 8.1 times and 6.7 times the projected enterprise value for the 2028 and 2029 fiscal years, reflecting a balanced outlook on its valuation relative to its growth potential.
For investors, the most important monitorable remains the impact of import pressures on domestic market share and the company's ability to navigate global trade restrictions. Tracking future quarterly results will provide more clarity on whether the company can maintain its current profit margins while dealing with these global and domestic trade complexities.
