Prabhudas Lilladher Maintains Accumulate Rating on Zydus Lifesciences

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has maintained an 'Accumulate' rating on Zydus Lifesciences with a target price of INR 1,200. While the company's focus on complex products like injectables and biosimilars drives long-term optimism, investors are weighing this against recent profit declines linked to high research expenses.

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has kept an 'Accumulate' rating on Zydus Lifesciences, assigning a target price of INR 1,200 per share. This view is based on the company’s strategic transition toward a more complex product portfolio, which analysts expect to support growth over the next three years. The stock has been trading around the INR 1,195 level following recent market volatility.

The investment thesis from the brokerage centers on the company's efforts to move beyond legacy revenue streams. Zydus Lifesciences is investing in a diverse pipeline that includes injectables, biosimilars, transdermals, and new chemical entities. Analysts believe these complex products, slated for launch over the next 24 to 36 months, will be the primary engines of growth. The management has indicated that two to three high-value product launches are expected during FY27 and FY28, which is seen as a vital step for sustaining momentum in the competitive United States market.

However, the company’s financial performance presents a mixed picture that investors are currently evaluating. In the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, Zydus Lifesciences reported a 29% increase in revenue, which reached INR 79,096 million. Despite this strong top-line growth, net profit declined by 27% year-on-year to INR 9,255 million. A major factor behind this profit contraction was the company’s increased spending on research and development. In the same quarter, R&D expenses stood at INR 6,573 million, accounting for 8.3% of the total revenue.

Looking ahead, the brokerage firm has adjusted its earnings per share estimates downward by 4% to 8% for FY28 and FY29. These revisions reflect the pressure on profit margins from heavy R&D investments and potential price competition in the US generics sector. While the company maintains a healthy balance sheet with a net debt-to-equity ratio of 0.19x as of September 30, 2026, the strategy of high-cost innovation carries execution risks. Shareholders are watching closely to see if these investments can yield timely returns through successful drug approvals and market penetration.

For investors, the key monitorables will be the actual timeline for these complex product launches and the company's ability to maintain its EBITDA margins, which were reported at 24% for the recent quarter. Any delays in regulatory approvals for the pipeline drugs or increased pricing pressure in the US market could impact the company's future earnings. The market will also track management commentary on how they plan to balance aggressive R&D spending with the need for near-term profit growth.
