Prabhudas Lilladher Initiates PhysicsWallah Coverage

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has initiated coverage on the education platform PhysicsWallah with a target price of INR 141 for its unlisted shares. The report highlights the company's low-cost model and expansion into offline centers as growth drivers. Investors should note that PhysicsWallah is a private company, and trading its shares involves different risks and lower liquidity compared to publicly listed stocks on the NSE or BSE.

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has officially started tracking the education technology company PhysicsWallah, assigning an 'Accumulate' rating and a target price of INR 141 per share. This move highlights the company's position within India's competitive education sector, which has seen significant changes in recent years.

It is important for investors to understand that PhysicsWallah is currently a private company. Unlike stocks listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), these shares are traded on specialized platforms for unlisted equities. This means that liquidity—the ability to easily buy or sell shares—is generally much lower than for public companies, and investors may face challenges in exiting positions quickly. The pricing on these platforms can also be less transparent than in the public market.

The brokerage's report focuses on PhysicsWallah’s specific business model, which it credits for the company's resilience. The firm maintains a low cost of acquiring students by leveraging its community-driven model, built through over 320 YouTube channels. This approach reduces the need for heavy spending on traditional advertising and promotions, which the report estimates will remain lean at roughly 9.1% of sales for the 2026 fiscal year.

The brokerage anticipates a steady upward trend in financial performance, forecasting compound annual growth for both revenue and pre-Ind AS EBITDA between fiscal years 2026 and 2029. The core of this growth strategy is the migration of the company's massive online user base into its physical offline classrooms. Additionally, analysts point to the company’s diversification into K-12 education, early learning, and professional upskilling as a way to defend its market position against larger, more capital-intensive competitors.

However, investors should view these projections against the backdrop of the wider edtech sector. Many companies in this space have recently struggled with high cash burn, regulatory scrutiny, and slowing demand. While PhysicsWallah has managed its costs differently, the education sector remains highly sensitive to pricing competition and changing student preferences. The company's ability to maintain its unique low-cost advantage while scaling its offline centers will be a key factor to watch.

The next steps for investors will be to monitor the company’s actual financial results, the utilization rates of its newly opened offline centers, and the success of its newer segments like K-12 and upskilling in contributing to overall profitability.
