ICICI Securities has maintained a HOLD rating on Persistent Systems, keeping its target price at Rs 5,280. While the company continues to see strong organic revenue growth and success in AI-led projects, the brokerage suggests the current stock valuation leaves limited room for short-term upside.
ICICI Securities has kept its neutral stance on Persistent Systems following the company’s first-quarter performance for the 2027 fiscal year. The brokerage firm maintains a target price of Rs 5,280, reflecting a balanced view on the company's strong operational progress versus its current market price.
Operational Growth and AI Strategy
Persistent Systems reported a steady 4.1% quarter-on-quarter revenue growth in constant currency, a metric that remains among the highest in the industry. This performance is backed by a substantial increase in new business, with total contract value and annual contract value rising by 120% and 39% year-on-year, respectively. A significant driver for these gains is the company’s focus on artificial intelligence. Unlike many peers, Persistent Systems has begun generating license revenue from its own AI platform. Furthermore, the company has heavily upskilled its workforce, with 33% of employees now holding professional certifications in AI, machine learning, or generative AI, compared to 18% in the same quarter last year. The firm has also focused on intellectual property, with 139 patent filings in data, analytics, and AI fields.
Valuation and Market Outlook
Despite these operational successes, the brokerage suggests that the stock is currently trading at a premium valuation compared to its historical averages and sector peers. ICICI Securities adjusted the company's valuation multiple to 32 times, up from 30 times, to account for its consistent ability to outperform the sector in revenue growth. However, when this multiple is applied to the projected earnings per share of Rs 165 for the fiscal year 2028, the resulting target price indicates that much of the company's expected growth may already be factored into the stock price. This leads to a cautious view regarding immediate upside potential for investors.
Investors tracking the company may monitor whether this momentum in AI-led revenue continues in the coming quarters and if the company can maintain its pace of deal wins while managing the costs associated with its high investment in artificial intelligence talent and infrastructure. Future updates on how effectively the company converts its intellectual property into sustained license revenue will be key for evaluating its long-term margin performance.
