Nomura Retains Buy on CarTrade Tech, Sets ₹3,340 Target

Brokerage firm Nomura has reiterated its positive view on CarTrade Tech, maintaining a price target of ₹3,340. The outlook is supported by expected growth from the integration of the OLX platform and new data-driven revenue streams. Investors are closely watching how these digital initiatives and partnerships help the company improve its profitability over the next few years.

Global brokerage Nomura has reaffirmed its positive outlook on CarTrade Tech, maintaining a buy rating with a price target of ₹3,340. The brokerage’s confidence stems from a combination of operational strategies, specifically the ongoing integration of the OLX platform and the introduction of new technology-led revenue streams.

At the core of this growth strategy is the company's efforts to monetize its massive user base. By integrating OLX, which sees millions of monthly active users, the company is looking to significantly expand its listings. Analysts suggest that even a small percentage of users adopting these services could lead to a substantial increase in overall revenue compared to fiscal 2026 levels. The management is also moving toward a more data-centric model, launching VAYA AI. This tool, which utilizes data from CarWale and BikeWale, is designed to provide specific insights into consumer preferences, creating a recurring income model through subscriptions.

CarTrade Tech operates on an asset-light model, which means it does not own the large inventories of vehicles that traditional dealers might. This approach is designed to keep overhead costs low while allowing for scale. This is complemented by the Shriram Automall (SAMIL) business, which handles physical vehicle auctions. The company is now working to bridge the gap between digital discovery and physical sales through alliances with partners like Landmark Cars, which allows for real-time inventory visibility for buyers.

While the brokerage is optimistic, the path ahead for the company involves several real-world challenges. The pre-owned car market in India is highly fragmented and competitive, with several well-funded players fighting for market share. Integrating a large platform like OLX involves operational complexity, and there is always a risk that the actual benefits or synergies may take longer to realize than expected. Furthermore, the company’s performance is sensitive to broader economic cycles that influence demand for used vehicles. If the cost of integration rises or if consumer demand slows, it could put pressure on the planned improvements in profit margins.

The key focus for investors in the coming quarters will be the execution of these digital initiatives and the impact on the bottom line. Observers will be monitoring whether the shift toward data-driven products like the upcoming Auto Behaviour Index can successfully create a stable, recurring revenue stream. Additionally, keeping track of the profit margin trajectory will be important to see if the company can deliver on the projected growth in its operational earnings.
