Neogen Chemicals, Rishabh Instruments in Focus as Markets Edge Up

Indian markets ended slightly higher despite crude oil concerns, with MarketSmith India highlighting Neogen Chemicals and Rishabh Instruments. Neogen recently reported a strong profit jump but faces challenges with high debt levels, while Rishabh Instruments remains a play on industrial automation.

The Indian equity market experienced a day of volatility on Monday, with the Nifty 50 and Sensex managing to close slightly higher. Investors were initially cautious as Brent crude prices remained elevated near $84.4 per barrel, a factor that often pressures profit margins for companies that rely on crude derivatives as raw materials. Despite these headwinds, market research platform MarketSmith India brought attention to Neogen Chemicals and Rishabh Instruments, citing their growth potential in their respective industrial segments.

Neogen Chemicals has been in the spotlight following its recent financial performance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹17 crore, marking a 67% increase compared to the same period last year. Management has also provided revenue guidance of ₹950-1,050 crore for the fiscal year. The company is actively expanding its footprint in the lithium chemicals market, which is gaining attention due to the rising demand for electric vehicle batteries. To support its financial health, the board has approved plans to raise ₹600 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) specifically to reduce debt levels.

However, investors may look closely at the company’s balance sheet. As of March 2026, Neogen Chemicals carried a debt load of approximately ₹1,295 crore. This high debt position, combined with ongoing recovery efforts at its Dahej manufacturing facility and a negative outlook from credit rating agency CRISIL (CRISIL A-/Negative), represents a significant factor to monitor. The company’s ability to execute its expansion plans without further straining its financials will be an important metric for observers in the coming quarters.

Rishabh Instruments, meanwhile, is being monitored for its role in the industrial automation and energy measurement sectors. The company benefits from the broader trend of industrial electrification and increasing demand for energy monitoring solutions. With a global manufacturing footprint and a diversified client base, it is positioned to capture opportunities in both domestic and export markets. Like other industrial players, the company is susceptible to fluctuations in industrial capital spending, which can impact order flow.

For investors, the broader market environment remains sensitive to crude oil prices. Higher oil prices can increase operational costs for chemical companies, potentially putting pressure on profit margins if they are unable to pass on these costs to customers. The next major updates to track for these companies will include the progress of Neogen’s debt-reduction plan, its operational stability at manufacturing sites, and Rishabh Instruments' ability to sustain order execution amid global demand shifts.
