Muthoot Finance Gets 'Buy' Rating From ICICI Securities With Rs 3,070 Target

ICICI Securities has upgraded Muthoot Finance to a 'Buy' rating with a price target of Rs 3,070. The brokerage noted the company's strong operational performance and AUM growth in the recent quarter. Investors are currently tracking the lender's asset quality and competition in the gold loan sector.

ICICI Securities has upgraded its rating for Muthoot Finance to 'Buy', setting a new price target of Rs 3,070 per share. This revision comes as the brokerage recalibrates its valuation, adjusting the previous target of Rs 3,500 to better align with current market conditions. The upgrade highlights the company’s ability to maintain steady operations despite shifting dynamics in the gold loan industry.

Strong Financial Performance

Muthoot Finance recently reported robust financial results for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. The company posted a standalone net profit of Rs 3,250 crore, a significant increase compared to Rs 2,420 crore in the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter reached Rs 9,998 crore. This financial growth is supported by an expanding portfolio, with consolidated loan assets under management climbing 42% year-on-year to reach Rs 2.09 lakh crore during the first half of the fiscal year.

Management has provided a positive outlook, guiding for 25% growth in assets under management for the full financial year. The company expects net interest margins—a key measure of profitability—to remain stable between 10.5% and 11%. These figures reflect the company's ongoing effort to expand its branch network and capture more market demand.

Risks and Market Context

While the brokerage remains positive on the stock’s growth trajectory, investors are paying close attention to several challenges. The gold loan sector is seeing intensified competition, which can put pressure on loan yields and profitability. Furthermore, the company has faced some asset quality stress, with recent data showing a rise in loan delinquencies and assets moving into higher-risk categories such as stage-II and stage-III.

These factors, combined with potential volatility in global gold prices, create a complex environment for gold-focused lenders. The stock has recently experienced volatility, touching a 52-week low near the Rs 2,305 mark, as market participants weighed these operational strengths against the sector-wide risks.

What Investors Should Monitor

Going forward, the key factor for shareholders will be the company’s ability to protect its profit margins while scaling its loan book. Investors may watch for future updates on asset quality to see if the recent increase in delinquencies stabilizes. Additionally, how the company manages competitive pressures in the coming quarters will be critical, as this will determine whether it can achieve the projected 25% growth in its loan portfolio without compromising the quality of its assets.
