Motilal Oswal Sets Rs 13,800 Target for UltraTech Cement

Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has reaffirmed a 'Buy' rating on UltraTech Cement with a target price of Rs 13,800. The positive outlook is driven by the company's massive capacity expansion plans and the integration of recent acquisitions. Investors should monitor how the company manages its debt and execution risks while aiming for a 242.5 MTPA capacity by FY28.

Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has reaffirmed its positive stance on UltraTech Cement, assigning a target price of Rs 13,800 per share. This target is based on the company's expected operating profit valuation for the fiscal year 2028. The report highlights the company's strong market position and its ability to maintain cost efficiency despite the heavy spending required for its ambitious growth plans.

The company is currently in the middle of a major expansion phase, aiming to increase its domestic grey cement capacity to over 242.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by FY28. To fund these projects, UltraTech recently raised Rs 5,000 crore through the issuance of non-convertible debentures, which are debt securities. This fundraising underscores the company's intent to keep pace with market demand, though it also increases the company's total borrowings.

Financial performance remains a key focal point for investors. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, the company reported revenue of Rs 24,465 crore and a profit of Rs 2,604 crore. A significant part of the growth strategy involves the integration of recent acquisitions, including ICEM and Kesoram. The brokerage expects these integrations to help improve operational efficiency, potentially boosting operating profit margins to around 21% by FY28.

However, the path to this growth involves specific business risks. The cement sector is sensitive to fluctuations in the cost of raw materials and energy, specifically crude oil prices, which directly impact logistics and fuel costs. Furthermore, the company faces execution risks. With such large-scale capacity additions, any delay in setting up new plants or a slowdown in demand from the infrastructure and housing sectors could affect the company’s ability to generate the expected financial returns.

Investors may monitor the timeline for commissioning these new capacities and the company’s success in maintaining profit margins while absorbing the costs of expansion and integration. The stock's future performance will likely depend on the company's ability to balance its aggressive growth strategy with strict cost control.
