Motilal Oswal Sets Adani Ports Target At ₹2,130 On Growth

Motilal Oswal has issued a positive outlook on Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), setting a target price of ₹2,130. The brokerage projects a 17% revenue CAGR and 21% profit growth through FY28, driven by strong cargo volume performance. Investors should monitor cargo throughput, global trade demand, and geopolitical conditions as these remain primary drivers for the company’s logistics operations.

Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal recently released a report on Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), highlighting the company's strong performance in the cargo handling sector. The report anticipates significant growth in the coming years, pinning a target price of ₹2,130 on the stock. This outlook is built on the company's operational strength, particularly in the dry bulk and container segments, which have helped it gain market share.

In the second quarter, APSEZ reported handling approximately 142 million tonnes of cargo. This represents a 15 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year. While the broader maritime industry faced challenges, often showing only marginal growth, the company’s ability to navigate these trends has been a focal point for analysts. The performance reflects a recovery in trade volumes, including improvements following earlier logistics disruptions caused by instability in the Middle East.

The brokerage anticipates this operational efficiency will drive financial growth through fiscal year 2028. Specifically, the projections include a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14 percent for total cargo volumes between FY26 and FY28. Based on these volume expectations, analysts forecast a 17 percent growth in total revenue, an 18 percent rise in EBITDA, and a 21 percent increase in profit after tax over the same period.

The price target is supported by a valuation of 17 times the projected EV/EBITDA for fiscal year 2028. This suggests that the brokerage sees long-term value in the company’s infrastructure footprint and its ability to manage diverse cargo streams, such as coal and petroleum products. The company’s focus on integrated logistics infrastructure is viewed as a key advantage in the sector.

For investors, the primary monitorables remain the stability of global trade and the company’s cargo handling efficiency. While the brokerage maintains a positive view, the maritime sector is inherently linked to global economic conditions and geopolitical stability. Changes in trade policies, fluctuations in commodity prices, or shifts in demand for bulk and container freight could impact operational outcomes. Tracking quarterly cargo throughput and capacity utilisation will be essential to see if the company meets the growth trajectory outlined by the analysts.
