Motilal Oswal Picks BSE and Symbiotec as Growth Targets

Motilal Oswal Wealth Management has shared a positive outlook on BSE and Symbiotec Pharmalab, driven by rising trading volumes and a strategic business transition. BSE is benefiting from regulatory updates and increased market activity, while Symbiotec is expanding into high-value manufacturing services. Investors should consider risks like regulatory changes for BSE and client concentration for Symbiotec.

Motilal Oswal Wealth Management has identified BSE and Symbiotec Pharmalab as top picks, citing specific growth drivers for both companies. The brokerage's report focuses on the recovery in trading activity for the stock exchange and a shift toward higher-value manufacturing for the pharmaceutical player.

BSE Outlook and Regulatory Tailwind

BSE is seeing a strong rebound in trading activity. In October 2026, the daily turnover value for derivatives trading—known as F&O ADTO—surged by 85% compared to the levels seen in August, when new trading rules were implemented. Analysts expect this momentum to continue, particularly after the partial reversal of the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) rules, which is scheduled for December 7, 2026. This change is expected to support a 16% year-on-year increase in trading turnover for the upcoming fiscal year.

The brokerage anticipates that these factors could lead to a 27% annual growth in net profit for the exchange through 2028. However, the company faces distinct challenges. Success remains tied to the regulatory environment, as changes in fee structures or trading rules can directly impact revenue. Additionally, the exchange faces intense competition from other market players, and any significant market volatility could affect trading volumes, which are critical for the company’s profitability.

Symbiotec Pharmalab’s Strategic Transition

Symbiotec Pharmalab is moving from its traditional business of making basic steroid-based active ingredients toward a more integrated model. The company is now focusing on contract manufacturing for other firms and producing complex injectable drugs, which typically offer better profit margins. Currently, the company holds a 38.2% global volume share in the corticosteroid API market, providing a strong base as it enters these new segments.

Analysts have projected a strong revenue growth trend for the company, targeting a 33% annual increase through 2029. This transition is backed by a major investment plan of Rs 16.7 billion expected through 2027. Despite the potential, the company has notable risks for investors to track. It faces high customer concentration, with its top five clients accounting for approximately 43% of its total revenue, making it vulnerable if any large client reduces orders. Furthermore, the company operates in a competitive global market where maintaining quality compliance across manufacturing facilities is essential to sustain growth and protect profit margins.
