Motilal Oswal Maintains Buy on Kaynes Technology With ₹5,000 Target

Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has reiterated its 'BUY' rating on Kaynes Technology with a price target of ₹5,000. While the company posted strong revenue growth of 40% in Q1 FY27, its net profit fell by 24% year-on-year, missing analyst estimates. Investors are now evaluating how rising costs from new capacity expansions and high debt levels might impact future profitability.

Motilal Oswal has maintained its 'BUY' rating for Kaynes Technology, setting a price target of ₹5,000 per share. This outlook follows the company's first-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2027, which presented a mixed picture for investors as strong demand growth clashed with rising operational costs.

Revenue and Growth Drivers

Kaynes Technology reported consolidated revenue of ₹946 crore for the quarter, marking a healthy 40.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The company's order book remains a key area of focus, standing at approximately ₹8,900 crore as of June 30, 2026, which is a 20% improvement year-on-year. Growth was broad-based, with significant contributions from the automotive, industrial, and aerospace segments. These sectors continue to drive demand for the company’s electronics manufacturing services.

Pressure on Profitability

Despite the impressive revenue performance, the company’s bottom line faced significant headwinds. Consolidated net profit for the quarter declined by 24.4% year-on-year to ₹56.4 crore, missing the consensus estimates of ₹69 crore. While EBITDA reached ₹147.6 crore, representing a 31% increase, the EBITDA margin contracted by 120 basis points to 15.6%.

The decline in profit and margin compression is largely attributed to higher operational costs. The company is currently dealing with component price inflation ranging from 10% to 35%. Additionally, aggressive spending on expansion projects, particularly in OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) capacity, has led to higher depreciation and interest expenses. These capital-intensive projects are essential for long-term growth but create immediate pressure on short-term earnings.

Investor Monitorables and Risks

Other brokerage firms, including Nuvama, Nomura, and JM Financial, have expressed a more cautious view regarding the stock. Their concerns largely center on the company's working capital requirements, inventory management, and rising debt levels. As the company continues to invest in new manufacturing capacities, maintaining cash flow and controlling debt will be critical for financial stability.

For investors, the key area to watch in the coming quarters will be the company’s ability to pass on rising component costs to customers and improve profit margins. While the strong order book suggests sustained demand, the impact of debt and high depreciation from new projects will be the primary factors determining whether the company can meet its growth targets.
