Motilal Oswal Maintains Buy on CONCOR, Sets Rs 530 Target

Motilal Oswal has reiterated a 'Buy' rating on Container Corporation of India with a target price of Rs 530. While the company saw a 7% decline in Q2 FY27 net profit to Rs 353 crore, the brokerage remains optimistic about its operational efficiency and record handling volumes.

Motilal Oswal has maintained a 'Buy' rating on Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), setting a target price of Rs 530 per share. The brokerage firm’s outlook is driven by the company’s ability to handle high volumes and maintain operational efficiency, even as the broader logistics sector faces challenges.

Q2 Performance and Dividend Update

In its financial results for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, CONCOR reported revenue from operations of approximately Rs 2,378 crore. While this reflected marginal growth, the company’s consolidated net profit saw a 7% year-on-year decline, settling at Rs 353 crore. Despite the bottom-line pressure, the company achieved a record quarterly handling volume of over 1.34 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), highlighting its significant market presence, particularly with a 63.75% market share at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.

The board has also announced a second interim dividend of Rs 1.90 per equity share for shareholders. Investors should note that the record date to determine eligibility for this dividend payment is November 11, 2026.

Why the Brokerage Remains Positive

The bullish stance from Motilal Oswal is largely rooted in the company’s operational resilience. Despite a contraction in absolute profit figures, the brokerage highlighted that CONCOR continues to manage its cost structures effectively. The company’s ability to sustain throughput volumes, even in a competitive and variable economic environment, suggests that its infrastructure and network continue to support long-term growth potential. The target price of Rs 530 indicates the firm's belief that the stock's current valuation does not fully reflect these underlying operational strengths.

Risks and Monitorables

While the outlook remains positive, investors should be aware of several factors that could influence future performance. A primary concern remains the uncertainty regarding Land License Fee (LLF) payments to Indian Railways. The final assessment of these charges is still pending, and any adverse changes could impact the company's financial flexibility.

Additionally, the company is not immune to broader sector pressures. Operational costs remain sensitive to inflation, which can squeeze profit margins if the company cannot pass these costs on to customers. Geopolitical tensions, particularly in West Asia, continue to pose risks to established trade routes, which could affect container traffic and volume growth. Investors should monitor whether the company can sustain its current margin profile in coming quarters and watch for any definitive updates regarding the Land License Fee obligations, as these will be critical for the company's future cash flow and profitability.
