Motilal Oswal Initiates Buy on V2 Retail, Sets Target at Rs 275

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has started coverage on V2 Retail with a ‘Buy’ rating and a price target of Rs 275. The brokerage identifies aggressive expansion in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and a high private-label mix as primary growth drivers. Investors may track the execution of the company's 450-store rollout plan alongside broader consumption trends.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has initiated coverage on V2 Retail with a ‘Buy’ rating, setting a target price of Rs 275 per share. This positive outlook from the brokerage follows a period of strong financial performance for the company, which recently reported a 58% year-on-year rise in consolidated revenue to Rs 997.2 crore and a 70% increase in net profit to Rs 41.9 crore for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.

Growth Strategy and Private-Label Focus

The brokerage's investment thesis highlights V2 Retail’s strategic focus on the value-fashion segment within tier-2 and tier-3 Indian cities. A key aspect of this model is the company’s product strategy, which maintains a private-label mix of approximately 90%. By relying less on third-party brands, the company retains greater control over design, pricing, and profit margins, which analysts believe provides a competitive advantage in the price-sensitive mass-market segment.

The company’s growth plan involves an ambitious expansion of its network, with 450 new stores planned. Analysts anticipate that this rollout will support a 40% revenue compound annual growth rate through fiscal year 2029. Management has expressed targets for at least 50% revenue growth in the current fiscal year, relying on cluster-based penetration to scale operations while maintaining store productivity.

Potential Risks and Market Challenges

While the expansion plans are substantial, investors may need to consider inherent risks in the retail sector. V2 Retail operates in the mass-market segment, which is susceptible to broader consumption slowdowns and inflationary pressures. Any dip in household discretionary spending could impact demand for its offerings. Furthermore, executing such a rapid expansion brings significant operational challenges. Maintaining consistent store productivity and profitability while scaling the network to 450 stores is a complex task.

Additional pressure may arise from margin compression if input costs rise or if competitive pricing intensifies in the value-fashion space. As the company moves forward with its expansion, the key monitorables for shareholders will be its ability to execute this rollout on time, control operational costs, and navigate potential headwinds in consumer spending. Future updates on store-level performance and quarterly financial results will provide more clarity on whether the company can sustain its current growth momentum.
