Motilal Oswal Initiates Buy on LG Electronics India With Rs 2080 Target

Motilal Oswal has started coverage on LG Electronics India with a 'Buy' rating and a price target of Rs 2,080. The brokerage highlights strong growth in premium products like televisions and washing machines. Additionally, the company is raising air conditioner prices by 5% to 6% starting October 1, 2026, to offset rising input costs.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has initiated coverage on LG Electronics India with a 'Buy' rating, setting a target price of Rs 2,080. This positive outlook is primarily driven by strong revenue momentum across the company's key consumer durable categories, including televisions, washing machines, and air conditioners. Analysts expect the company’s strategic shift toward premium products to remain a primary engine for revenue growth in the coming fiscal years.

The firm’s focus on premiumization, where it encourages customers to choose higher-end models, has been a central driver for its financial health. This strategy contributed to a 27.2% increase in net profit reported in the first quarter of 2026. Looking forward, the brokerage anticipates that profit margins will improve, projecting an expansion of 70 basis points in the 2028 fiscal year. This expectation is supported by a richer product mix and ongoing efforts to localize the supply chain.

To manage rising manufacturing and input costs, the company has implemented a price increase of 5% to 6% on its air conditioner range, effective October 1, 2026. While increasing prices can sometimes affect sales volume in a competitive market, this adjustment is aimed at protecting profit margins against inflation in raw material prices. Prices for other product categories are expected to remain stable for the time being.

Investors should closely monitor the competitive nature of the consumer durables sector. While demand for premium appliances has been resilient, the company operates in a crowded environment with intense pressure from both domestic and international rivals. A significant risk for shareholders to track is whether further price increases might dampen consumer demand, or if the brand's strength will allow the company to successfully pass on costs without losing market share.

Looking ahead, the most specific monitorables for investors include the successful execution of the new 'Essential' series product expansion, the stability of profit margins in the face of commodity price fluctuations, and whether volume growth remains consistent across the TV and washing machine divisions following recent price adjustments.
