Motilal Oswal has initiated a buy rating on Jubilant Foodworks with a target price of Rs 625, driven by a recovery in Domino’s store sales and rapid growth in the Popeyes brand. While the company is shifting toward operational efficiency, investors are keeping a close watch on high debt levels and inflation, which have contributed to recent pressure on the stock price.
Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has begun coverage on Jubilant Foodworks with a buy recommendation and a price target of Rs 625. The brokerage suggests that the company is well-positioned to benefit from a rebound in discretionary consumer spending, supported by a strengthening performance in its primary businesses.
The core of the positive outlook rests on the recovery of the Domino's Pizza franchise. The brand reported a 4.1% like-for-like sales growth in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. This indicates that customer demand is stabilizing after a period of slower performance. Furthermore, the Popeyes brand is emerging as a significant secondary revenue driver. The brand saw a 97% jump in revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, with average daily sales figures now becoming comparable to established competitors like KFC.
Management is currently shifting its strategy from aggressive store and supply chain expansion to operational productivity. After spending heavily over the last three years to build a large logistics and supply chain network, the company plans to focus on maximizing output from its existing assets. This change in focus is intended to improve profit margins and free up cash, rather than continuing to pour capital into infrastructure. Analysts believe this shift could lead to better capital efficiency in the coming quarters.
Despite this optimistic view, the stock has recently faced downward pressure, falling approximately 4% to 7% following the company's second-quarter business update. This reaction reflects some market anxiety regarding the pace of same-store growth and the company's financial health.
A key risk that investors are monitoring is the company's debt position. With a debt-to-equity ratio of roughly 1.52x, Jubilant Foodworks faces higher debt pressure compared to some peers, which can limit financial flexibility during volatile periods. Additionally, inflationary pressures continue to weigh on the broader retail sector, potentially threatening profit margins if the company cannot effectively manage its input costs. There are also concerns surrounding the company's international operations, specifically in the Eurasia market, which have recently faced performance challenges.
The upcoming financial results and subsequent management commentary will be critical for investors to track. Key monitorables include whether the company can maintain its margin improvement trend while managing its debt load, and whether the Popeyes brand can continue its rapid expansion pace without diluting the overall performance of the portfolio.
