Motilal Oswal's latest research report details growth strategies for companies like Kotak Mahindra Bank, BSE, and Indian Hotels through FY29. The report also evaluates expansion plans for private firms like Lenskart and Urban Company. Investors should note that while some listed entities offer direct market exposure, others remain unlisted and require different assessment metrics.
Motilal Oswal Wealth Management has released its updated research outlook, focusing on growth opportunities spanning large, mid, and small-cap segments. The firm’s analysis covers a range of industries, from banking and financial exchanges to hospitality and digital services, projecting earnings trends through fiscal year 2029.
Banking and Financial Exchange Outlook
For Kotak Mahindra Bank, the research maintains a constructive outlook, driven by the bank’s ongoing efforts to increase lending across both retail and corporate customers. The bank is currently navigating a period where net interest margins—the difference between interest earned on loans and interest paid on deposits—dipped slightly to 4.31 per cent in the recent quarter. Despite this, the quality of its loan book remains stable, with gross non-performing assets (GNPA) at 1.04 per cent. The firm expects the bank to continue scaling its operations in line with nominal GDP growth, though success will depend on managing credit costs and maintaining deposit growth.
BSE remains a focal point in the exchange sector. Following recent regulatory changes concerning notional volumes in Futures and Options (F&O) trading, the exchange has seen a recovery in activity. The research indicates that increased institutional participation and the introduction of long-dated contracts are key drivers for revenue. However, investors should monitor the regulatory environment, as changes to trading rules often influence exchange volumes and profitability. Success here also depends on the exchange's ability to compete effectively for market share in a highly regulated space.
Hospitality and Consumer Services
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has reported a strong second quarter for FY27, marked by a 22 per cent revenue increase. A key metric here is Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR), which reached ₹13,860. The company’s growth plan involves a significant pipeline of 34,800 new rooms. While the hospitality sector is currently seeing recovery, it remains sensitive to broader economic cycles and discretionary consumer spending, which can impact demand.
Private Company Expansion and Risks
The report also tracks private firms like Lenskart, Symbiotec Pharmalab, and Urban Company. Lenskart is focusing on an omnichannel retail strategy with the goal of reaching 4,500 stores by FY29. For Urban Company, the focus is on achieving operational break-even by the third quarter of FY28, supported by a planned ₹25 billion fundraise. Symbiotec Pharmalab is shifting its focus toward a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) model, moving away from traditional API manufacturing to complex products like injectables.
Investors must distinguish between these companies. While Kotak Mahindra Bank, BSE, and Indian Hotels are listed on public exchanges, Lenskart, Symbiotec Pharmalab, and Urban Company are private entities. Retail investors cannot buy shares of these private companies on the stock market. For these firms, the key monitorable is their execution capability, funding success, and ability to turn scale into sustainable profitability without relying solely on external capital.
