Molbio Diagnostics IPO: ₹939 Crore Issue Opens, Price Band Set

The initial public offering of Molbio Diagnostics, the maker of the Truenat testing platform, opened for subscription today. Priced at ₹768–₹807 per share, the company aims to raise nearly ₹940 crore to fund expansion and research. Investors should weigh the company’s innovative technology against risks like high customer concentration and revenue dependence on specific disease testing.

The initial public offering of Molbio Diagnostics Limited opened for subscription on Monday, August 10, 2026. The company, which provides point-of-care molecular diagnostic solutions, aims to raise approximately ₹939.70 crore through this issue. The price band for the shares has been set at ₹768 to ₹807 per share. Retail investors can participate with a minimum lot size of 18 shares, requiring an investment of ₹14,526 at the upper price band.

Business Focus and Growth Plans

Molbio Diagnostics is primarily known for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable, battery-operated PCR system that allows for rapid molecular testing. This technology is widely used in resource-limited settings and is notable for being one of the few platforms with WHO endorsement for tuberculosis testing. The fresh issue portion of the IPO, amounting to ₹200 crore, is designated for upgrading manufacturing units in Goa and Visakhapatnam, as well as developing new R&D facilities. The company attracted significant attention during its anchor round, securing ₹281.5 crore from 33 institutional investors, including global names like Goldman Sachs and BlackRock, as well as several Indian mutual funds.

Critical Investor Monitorables

While the company’s proprietary technology and market position in rapid testing are key focus areas, investors should note specific operational and financial risks mentioned in its filings. A significant portion of the company’s business is concentrated, with approximately 83% of its revenue in the 2026 financial year coming from its top 10 customers. These customers are largely government bodies and international aid agencies, meaning that any change in government tender policies or a shift in procurement priorities could impact the company’s revenue.

Furthermore, the company has a high dependency on a single product segment. Roughly 70.2% of its revenue is generated from sales related to tuberculosis diagnostics. While this reflects a strong niche presence, it also exposes the company to risks associated with the TB testing market and limited product diversification. Investors should also be aware of historical governance-related disclosures found in company documents, including past statutory auditor qualifications regarding asset verification and statutory dues, as well as reports of fund misappropriation by external parties and a former employee. While the company has taken steps to address these, such history is a factor for long-term investors to assess.

Next Steps for Investors

The IPO is scheduled to close on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Following the closure, the focus will shift to the allotment process and the expected listing on the BSE and NSE, which is tentatively scheduled for August 17, 2026. Investors may monitor the subscription levels across different categories—retail, non-institutional, and institutional—to gauge market sentiment as the issue progresses.
