LTIMindtree Downgraded to Hold by Prabhudas Lilladher on Valuation Concerns

Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher has downgraded LTIMindtree shares to 'Hold' from 'Accumulate' as current valuations reach a peak. While the IT company beat growth expectations in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, analysts are cautious about margin pressure from the Randstad integration and geopolitical issues in the Middle East. The brokerage has set a price target of Rs 4,240.

Prabhudas Lilladher has shifted its outlook on LTIMindtree to 'Hold', moving away from a more positive 'Accumulate' rating. The brokerage cited that the stock's current valuation has reached a cyclical peak, making the risk-reward ratio less attractive for investors at current levels. Despite this change in stance, the brokerage has maintained a price target of Rs 4,240.

Growth Performance and Margin Headwinds

LTIMindtree reported a resilient performance in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company recorded a 1.1% quarter-on-quarter growth, excluding the impact of currency fluctuations. This result was slightly better than initial projections of 0.8%. Operating margins also saw a modest improvement of 10 basis points, landing at 15.6%.

However, the outlook on profitability is under pressure due to two main factors. First, the integration of the Randstad business is creating near-term costs. Second, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia, have acted as a drag, reducing the overall growth rate by an estimated 60 to 70 basis points. Because of these challenges, analysts have revised their operating margin forecasts for the company. The target for fiscal year 2027 is now 15.2%, and for fiscal year 2028, it is 15.0%, down from previous estimates of 15.5% and 15.6% respectively.

Shift in Order Strategy

During the quarter, the company reported new order inflows of USD 1.26 billion. While this figure may appear lower to some observers, company leadership has clarified that this reflects a strategic choice rather than a lack of demand. The firm is increasingly focusing on shorter-duration projects centered around Artificial Intelligence. These AI-led engagements now account for 13.4% of total revenue.

While these shorter projects offer faster revenue cycles, they generally result in lower total contract values compared to traditional, long-term IT service contracts. Management has indicated that they expect the current geopolitical problems in the Middle East to ease by the third quarter of this fiscal year.

Investors may monitor the company's ability to stabilize margins and the actual conversion of these new AI-focused projects into sustained revenue. The key monitorable for the coming quarters will be whether the anticipated improvement in the Middle East business materializes and whether the company can maintain its margin levels despite the ongoing integration costs.
